Like other Japanese teahouses, visitors can enjoy matcha and confectionaries along with looking at a beautiful Japanese garden. But visitors can also see a very old wooden little teahouse which is connected with a 18th century feudal lord "Fumai-kou" before enjoying matcha. He is famous as a tea master among people of Matsue district, it is said that he deeply affected the tea culture around Matsue, and that confectioneries served with matcha are also his favorites. Waiters are friendly and kindness. I’m sure that you will enjoy spending peaceful time here. Credit card are available.

It took me a little while to locate the tea house perched on the slope. It's very quiet and peaceful there and you can see Matsue Castle at the lookout point there. The matcha and wagashi served there were superb and the tour around the peaceful, original tea house was very nice too

The garden is beautiful and traditionally Japanese with a zen feeling but the tea ceremony was the best part as you get to sit in the tea house facing the large glass sliding doors, sipping on some green tea and enjoying the view. The woman who working there was really nice and we chatted for a little while. A great sight especially if you're interested in having good quality green tea in an authentic and not overly touristy location.

I visited during Matsue's Dachakai, a weekend-long tea festival. Most of the schools held casual tea ceremonies in tents on the castle grounds, but the Mushakoujiisenke (warrior) school held theirs here. A short trek up the hill from Shiomi Nawate street, it was covered in greenery and had a unique view of the castle, and the building itself was intimate and comfortable. It's rather small, but we fit a large number of people very comfortably. Very pleasant natural lighting, even on a rainy day, and quiet.

It is a hike uphill to get to it, but a nice view once there. The old teahouse is quite beautiful, and the "new" teahouse serves tea and mochi. Worth checking it out if you are interested in tea ceremony.

So this was my first experience of Traditional Tea in Japan. The person in charge explained everything very slowly, so that I can clearly understand. The green tea tasted so good that I really want to go again. Besides, the view in the tea store is also very good, since it has a traditional Japanese garden which was well-cared. Even though it is located a bit far from the center of the city, I strongly recommend people to visit this place and try tea and cakes.

Teahouse Meimei-an is an excellent place to enjoy an authentic Japanese tea ceremony (Sado) as well as the quietness of the adorable little garden in front of the teahouse.

This is an easy to miss gem. The tiny tea house is said to be one of the oldest in Japan. Sometimes "age" refers to the site rather than the building in Japan, however its dimensions and scale certainly felt genuine. We explored the house, wandered the small garden and had tea in a veranda facing the garden. It was exquisite.
