This is an amazing look back at the way in which Yakum Koizum (Hearn) lived and worked while he was in Matsue for what would become his formative years in Japan. This is the place he met his wife and first starting teaching at the...More

The Yakumo Koizumi Residence is an idyllic traditional Japanese house next to the castle river. I can especially recommend this attraction to foreigners who are very familiar with Japanese culture, live in Japan, speak Japanese, might even be thinking of becoming Japanese just as Lafcadio...More

This old Japanese residence (sometimes referred as old samurai house) gives you a good view on how life must have been in the past in japan. A plus is the reduce fee for foreign visitors.

I knew why Yakumo Koizumi loved Matue city and lake Shinji when I visited this. The residence was well remained.

Literati who loved Japan, house lived Koizumi Yakumo. Buildings of more than a hundred years ago. Wonderfully beautiful garden. It is possible to see the customs of hundred years ago. Narrow building, but can spend a relaxed time. I recommend strongly here.

A quick stop and walk-through right after the Hearn Memorial Hall next door. Worth a look if you're sight-seeing in the Shiomi Nawata/Matsue Castle area.
