Important to combine visit of Koraku-en garden right across the river. Great impression on Japanese history

A nice and reconstructed citadel like many of them throughout Japan. Worth visiting if you arrive in the city but does not justify special arrival. A visit to the spectacular gardens next to it is definitely a must!

Our main reason for visiting Okayama was to see the castle and hopefully be able to dress up in traditional clothes, because the first 5 applicants at certain times of the day were able to do so. we were first in line at 12.30 and...More

The Castle is part of the Korakuen Garden and can only be accessed from the garden. We bought the combination Garden and Castle admission ticket. This is the main attraction in Okayama. This is already the restored, rebuilt castle based on the original. They have...More

This castle is quite small as compared with others in Japan. But its black external walls definitely make it stand out. Nothing much to see or do in the area though. Left after taking a few pictures.

The fortress has been rebuilt 50 years ago, and you need to purchase tickets to go up the fortress. Worth a visit.

Nice castle where you can see the city from it's top. If you don't read Japanese, you won't understand the story or the exhibit pieces in there. You can get the combined tickets of 560yen for entrance to both Okayama Castle & Korakuen Garden.

The castle is smaller, but not less impressive than Himeji or others. The outside looks a bit like Matsumoto with it's black exterior, bit this castle has way more golden accents! We didn't go inside because the castle was already closed, but the walk around...More

Okayama Castle is apleasant visit but not worth a special stop. Koraku-En is wrth a special stop so once you're there a sidetrip to the castle is worthwhile. The exterior is attractive, but no match for Himeji. Inside there is a modestly interesting museum.

The castle was well maintained even over few hundreds years history. From the top floor of the castle, we could see the beautiful garden behind and part of Okayama city. On the 4th floor, it has a small section providing some traditional costumes (kimono) for...More

Okayama Castle originally made in 1597, was destroyed in the last year of WWII and was rebuilt in 1966. Thus, the original castle like Himeji Castle is a better castle. But Okayama Castle is located on the Asahi River... More
