This shrine is absolutely gorgeous and was a good place to begin our introduction to the beautiful shrines of Japan. We were here on a day of celebration so many people were in traditional clothing and it was great fun to see the children all...More

When we visited the shrine there were a number of religious activities ongoing, which made the visit more interesting. It is about an average size shrine with a long staircase leading to a little park area.

We visited this shrine during our one day stop. The shrine is beautiful and colourful, with lots of details. We did not have a guide and so we probably didn't get the full appreciation of the history or layout of the complex. There were school...More

This Shrine is absolutely beautiful! I’ve been each time I’ve visited the area and it always amazes me. So calm and peaceful. Absolutely stunning buildings. I would recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Shizuoka Sengen Jinja Shrine is unique and we loved to visit there. A complex of three main architectural buildings. The shrine features an extensive collection of artifacts from the Tokugawa Shogunate that ruled Japan for 300 years during the Edo Period.

We went here as part of an organized cruise shore excursion. This is similar to other shrines, peaceful and colorful. You can see the entire area in 30 minutes.

If you like historic architecture you'll find here very interesting. Although the site is not so big, there are many buildings constructed in 19th century full of wood carvings. The decorations are of the taste of Tokugawa shogunate era, like those in Nikko, but I...More
