Long queue to get up to the "castle" which is a tourist attraction. We didn't pay to go inside. The car parking is highly organised though as all Japanese things are. Not worth the trip up unless you just want to have a view of the bay.

The castle by itself is not that special however it gives you a good panoramic view of the region. The castle itself has some interesting collections like the Edo period armours and swords, from the region also. It is a good combination to see, you may spend 1-2 hours looking around. There 's not that many attractions in Atami so... More

I visited the castle just because I stopped in Atami and was strolling around. If you want to get there from the train station, you can first walk to the beach (I think it took between 20 and 30 minutes), continue walking on the seaside boulevard (the castle will be clearly visible then) and take the gondola lift to the... So since we were in Atami so thought of visiting the Atami Castle. you need to walk on the slope to reach the castle so keep comfortable shoes while we have taken the ropeway which was a worth it view. and then we went to sex museum before hitting the Atami Castle. and for sure it is a better option... I'm sure you must have read a lot of reviews by now & the opinions voiced are true that it is not worth the visit. It was just built during the heydays to attract tourists. The Trick Art Museum next door is also another gimmick to pull the wool over your eyes, so don't bother paying the high entrance fees to... Nothing to see inside but the view outside and on the top balcony was great. We did the hop on hop off bus and this was one of the destinations. The exterior of the building was gorgeous. Not worth the price of admission for the inside unless you want shots from the top balcony.

While the main reason for our Tour stopping at this location was its connection to a certain early 1960s giant monster film, there were other activities to keep one's interest while waiting out the scheduled hour before departure. While I did spend some time going through the samurai artifacts and castle model exhibits, I ended up devoting most of my... More

You get a discount if you opt to get tickets to both the castle and the trick museum next door. This castle is a 1959 modern, newly created steel & concrete structure. According to some sources, Atami never had a castle during feudal times. This was built as a tourist attraction during the height of tourism in Atami. This modern... More

We took the ropeway up, and having reached the top the castle was one of the attraction. from far it looks great, as you get close then you realised its not a real castle. anyways there is an entrance fee to it and they sell a lot of souvenirs outside. You can skip this one if you are planning to... More

from the outside, it seems quite impressive since it's situated on top of a hill above the ocean; however, it's quite a bit of a let down once you see how "fake" it is up close. We took the public bus from stop #7 by Atami Station then a very old, not air-conditioned standing ropeway a few minutes up (400... More
