Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

When you are in Niigata city, visit Furusato-mura.. this place has everything from kids to grown up, like fish pond, kids area, a walk of the history of Niigata from a long time. There is also a theater that houses a movie about Niigata.. of course in Japanese but easier to follow

You will also find a place to dine local food, buy local rice crackers, sake at very reasonable prices compared to other shops. The place also houses Tsubame Sanjo pottery work, famous not only for kitchen tools, but also souvenirs for young kids..

This wonderful place houses a market which explores almost everything made in Niigata Prefecture. Sake, fish, tea, artworks both decorative and useful.

I found a set of things needed for the preparation of green tea at a price that was quite reasonable. Each of the shops is separate, but many accept credit cards.

We also saw a demonstration of taiko drumming while we visited. Stop by and enjoy. No entrance fee.

Place to buy authentic food products of Niigata. Replication of what can be purchased at many train and souvenir shops. 35 minute bus ride from Niigata station, 240 yen one way. Personally, my time would've been better spent shopping @ Niigata City train station and surrounding areas. We were in and out of the village in 30 minutes.

Love the wide range of attractions, food, and entertainment that furusatomura offers. The garden is planted and re-planted each season to showcase another gorgeous blossom. The food inside the main hall spans sweet to savory, with a lot of fresh food to suit just about anyone. The food stands outside are great for people with children to play and keep them distracted while the parents sit and rest. Inside the attraction hall is a large playground where children can run while still being supervised by parents/guardians. In short, this place has something for everyone.

It does get a little busy on the weekends and closes relatively early in the day, so earlier is better. There's tons of parking and overflow parking as well. The water shuttle is a great way to extend your time at furusatomura with a mini-cruise up/down the Shinano River.

There's a decent, interactive history of Niigata museum here, but most of the place is given over to selling Niigata-related food and merchandise. It's nice enough as that goes, but nothing to go out of your way for.

Today we were taking a ferry from Niigata Port to return to Hokkaido. Before heading to the ferry terminal, we got off the highway at Niigata Nishi IC and stopped off at Niigata Furusato Mura Roadside Station.
Niigata Furusato Mura was a large roadside station. There were several facilities, including a vast tulip field that had just finished opening, and the Bazaar Hall, which was filled with Niigata souvenirs.
At the Bazaar Hall, we were able to purchase a variety of Niigata souvenirs. There was also a famous shop selling the local specialty sasa dango, so we were able to buy some sasa dango from Tanakaya Honten.
