This is well worth a visit. The sculpture in front is by a local artist who spend decades in NY but finally returned to her home town. I like that.

The permanent collection is very nice, although little is explained/marked in English. You buy tickets, and at every room you must show them again. It also puzzeld me why they are so fanatic about not taking pictures. Seems just a rule to abide, and all...More

Yayoi Kusama's home town - Matsumoto! Her permanent exhibition isn't huge but it lists all her major art works and her biography. Too bad we missed her All About My Love temporary exhibition. Worth a visit.

Small but well presented museum featuring a great selection of work by local artist Yayoi Kusama. Staff are friendly and polite so was nice to walk around and take your time.

IF the yayoi kusama exhibition is still there this is a MUST see if you like this description. The collection is very playful and has several small room set-ups that surprise you with mirrors, glow-in-the-dark and lights. That makes this special exhibition a bit of...More

I visited Matsumoto to see Yayoi Kusama's exhibition and it was worth making a trip from overseas. I had seen a big exhibition in Tokyo last year, and I agonised whether I should make a trip and I am glad that I made an effort....More

No it ended the 22.08.2018 in Matsumoto City Museum of art. HOWEVER, there is another special exhibition in the YAYOI KUSAMA MUSEUM in Tokyo until 31.09.2018 ("Here, Now, I Have Reached the Grandest Start of My Life")

They limit photography within the exhibit to just one large room where about 40 of her square canvases are shown. The entrance fee is ¥1200, well worth it.
