Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From the bridge, you can enjoy the clear Azusa River and the Hotaka mountain range with its remaining snowfields.
Because it was a weekday, it wasn't very crowded and I was able to take photos in the best position in the middle of the bridge.
I took photos with some young foreigners. Young people are good at taking photos.
It's a wooden suspension bridge, so it sways.

It had been about 30 years since I last visited, so I felt nostalgic and decided to visit.
As I approached Kappa Bridge, I heard more and more Mandarin being spoken, and I almost forgot that I was in Kamikochi. I don't intend to complain about the language, but I wish people would stop taking pictures waving selfie sticks around, as it's dangerous. Commemorative photos are important, but I also want people to enjoy the nature.

The bridge is nothing special in it self although you get a very pretty background with the mountains. Spend your time walking up and down the river for some great walks, fresh air and beautiful nature. Kamikochi is definitely a great one day trip from Matsumoto!

Once you walk the 300 meters from the bus terminal (take the "river" not the "forest" path), you will arrive at the main juncture of the valley. Most tourist lodges are within a few meters and on both sides of the bridge. There is a shop and cafe on each side, though I think the shop on the terminal side is better. After a long day's hike, it is great to
sit around the bridge, watch the people, have a drink and relax. This is really the starting point for your Kamikochi experience, whether you are a day hiker or a multi-day tracker.
Either way, enjoy the experience.

There is a bus service running every 20 min that brings tourists to Kappabashi, although we started from Taisho pond. At Kappabashi, there is a Kamikochi information centre which, unusually, is situated further in from all the restaurant/cafe/hotel area. Good to head there for a map that shows the walking routes and approximate times.

This was by far the best place place we visited , The scenery was amazing, Although there were many tourists .We went on several walks and many times found we were quite alone. We were also lucky enough to see two wild snow monkeys in the forest

This bridge is nice to take pictures but gets so overcrowded. Should visit it early in the morning before crowds get in.

Being a famous bridge, it has a busy stream of visitors above the lovely clear water. We had lunch at the Kamikochi Kappa Cafe. The service is excellent and the cafe is quite popular. The croquettes is big 300Yen, the donburi with pork cutlet (1350Yen)and soba with local river fish and wild vegetables (1380Yen) are delicious. There is an English menu if you ask for it.

We took the Horuiku Shinkansen from JR Ueno Station at 6.22 am and reaching Nagano at 7.36 am. On arrival at Nagano, we went from platform 12 to platform 6 to board the Shinano No 4 train at 7.45 am to Matsumoto. Arrival time at Matsumoto (platform 1 ) is 8.37 am. Without exiting from station, we walked to platform 7 to board the Kamikochi Line train at 8.43 am to Shin-Shimashima. We arrived at Shin-shimashima station at 9.14 am. We bought the Alps Crossing Ticket at 5000 yen (Matsumoto-Kamikochi-Takayama) at Shin-shimashima station. There were two buses waiting to transport all of us at that time to Kamikochi. The bus left at 9.25 am and we arrived at Kamikochi at 10.30 am. At Kamikochi Bus Terminal, we left our small overnight bags at Luggage Storage at 350 Y and 400 Y for small and medium size bags respectively. We were told to collect it by 5.00 pm.
We walked towards Kappa Bridge and continued on towards Myojinkan in one hour for our lunch break. We returned to Kappa Bridge via another route which was my favourite in terms of the various types of walking trails ( sometime boardwalk and sometime natural path) and pretty autumn foliage seen. We took the bus to our hotel at Taisho Pond. With the wonderful weather that day, we thoroughly enjoyed our hike in Kamikochi. I would strongly recommend spending a night at Kamikochi to enjoy the different trails as it was quite a journey to get there.

We will have a private car. I have the following questions: How close can we drive to Kappa Bashi before we must park the car and take a bus to Kappa Bashi. How often does the bus run in mid-May?
Thank you!

You can drive to park at the spot provided for boarding bus to the visitor center in Kamigochi. It's the nearest point to go to Nippon bashi.
