Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An attractive shrine, with stained glass work at the top of the doorway structure. Lit up at night, it's quite atmospheric. Ritual hand washing troughs are close by. Worth an unhurried look around the grounds.

There are a lot of big garden sights in Kanazawa, it'd be easy to skip the lovely Oyama Shrine and it's gardens. The guilded frogs on the lily pads are worth a close look as our the gardens. It's worth spending a bit of time wandering around.

I've seen many shrines around Japan. Oyama Shrine doesn't stand out to me but it was still a nice shrine and gardens. The garden was the highlight for me, it was fun to walk around the pond. There were some interesting art sculptures around the shrine. I walked by here a few times to visit the castle. It's worth checking out at night as well.

A great little shrine in the center of Kanazawa directly next to the castle part. More notable than the shrine was the lovely water features on the grounds. Quite a nice place to spend some time.

We came across this shrine quite accidentally on our walk to Kenrokuen and I'm so glad we did. Though the weather was awful that day, this little shrine was quite lovely. Pretty garden, and a very interesting gate. Buy some castellas from the vendors near the gate.

I absolutely loved the beautiful Oyama Shrine in Kanazawa. Its entrance gate and tower are quite something else. The shrine is lovely too but the real joy for me was in exploring the grounds and all it statuary, waterfeature and sub -temples. It has a magnificent old world charm and the moss on some of the statues and stonework give it an untouched quality.
Completely free to enter and it is stop 3 on the JR bus route which is free to JR pass holders, about a 5 minute ride from Kanazawa station.
Honestly it's a must see if you're in town, a beautiful, idyllic, relaxing place.

The shrine is like so many others but the gate is worth the time to stop and take a look. Even a photograph. There are a couple of nice, inexpensive, restaurants near the Shrine worth taking a look at.

The entrance from the road by the hotel has the usual gate and main building however to the side of the shrine is a small park with a hill and lots of trees. In the park is a pond with a weird shaped stone bridge and to the sides of the pond are various statues and sculptures. The trees were very established so it must be a great place to go and escape the heat in summer and just sit by the pond watching the people crossing it. i found this shrine quite quirky and thus refreshing.

Be ready to take lots of great pictures with your camera. Gorgeous shrine however the gardens surrounding the shrine were even more magnificent. I came here in February when it was snowing and the scenery was just divine. No entrance fees, great place to sit along the river and have a bite to eat, watching the giant sized koi fish swim by

This is a little paradise in the heart of Kanazawa. We happened upon it by chance as we were walking and slightly off course. Two strangers greeted us and gave us mini origami cranes. The setting was outstanding, incorporating the elements of Japanese gardens - running water, peaceful views, and even a crooked segmented path over a pond. For me it is a symbol that the path through life is not straight, but that one should enjoy its twists and turns.
