The highlight of Kanazawa was the Kenrokuen gardens. We walked through these during the day and we were also fortunate that they were lit up at night. With autumn leaves still on the trees, it was spectacular. You can walk from the station or take the bus; it's easy.

I visited the park first in the evening and saw some really fantastic views so I went again the next day during the day in order to see what it was like in daylight. I found night scene in the park much more impressive because of the lighting and the reflections of the fall foliage. The reflected images were as... More

I have visited Kenrokuen twice, once more than 6 years ago in the summer before the Shinkansen line connected the place to Tokyo, and recently in the autumn. The layout of Kenrokuen is ideal with beautiful water features and perfectly manicured trees, some of them many centuries old. The main Kasumigaike Pond and Kotojitoro Lantern attractions are hard to miss,... More

If you are +65, the garden is free, but they ask proof so bring your identity card or pasport, otherwise the entrance fee is 300 Yen. it is more of a park then a garden, but beautiful, even on a rainy day.

Try to arrive really early or at other times when the garden is less crowded. There are many beautiful corners in the garden.

The garden is very beautiful. We saw many old trees supported and hung beautifully. We were glad we manage to get in before 5pm. We had good day light even it was 4pm. Its a good place for good photos.Best in Autumn. Many eating places outside for shopping and eating local snacks.

Absolutely beautiful including the yukitsuri , literally meaning snow hanging, which had just been completed. Branches of the pine trees are protected by attaching ropes in a conical array prevent then from breaking with the weight of the snow although was told there isn't much snow anymore. The gardens open 7am so I was there early before it became too... More

Wow - there is a reason this is ranked the most beautiful garden in japan. Absolutely stunning to walk around during autumn and so thoughtfully developed. Although I spent 1.5 hours here you could easily spend more. A must see in Kanazawa!!

One of the best gardens in Japan. Visited in late November so experienced beautiful red, yellow and orange colours of autumn. A sight not to be missed.
