Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This “museum” is highly overrated. The best part is the pond that can be seen from the park outside the museum. If you reached that place, then you have seen the best part, which itself is very nice and worth visiting. That's all what is worth visiting.

If by some unfortunate accident you will step into the museum, you will see:
— one room with a few photos of D.T. Suzuki
— learning room, with just a few books, and four chairs cramped in small space not suitable for learning (too close to other people, space is too open, hard to concentrate)
— one ikebana (a flower arrangement)
— one subpar dry landscape garden (through the window)

If you are lucky, then the no one will be chatting in the contemplative space. (I wasn't lucky).

If you are willing to learn about Zen, then you will learn nothing. There were only a few texts (not more than 100 words long) that were making assumptions about western philosophy and saying why Japanese one is better.

If you are careful, you will collect 6 pieces of paper (no more) with thoughts of D.T. Suzuki.

The pond outside the museum and the path to the museum was pleasant. So if you have a bit of time consider taking a walk.

D. T. Suzuki Museum at 3-4-20 Hondamachi in Kanazawa, Japan has an architecture designed for tranquility. The museum was okay. Learning about D.T. Suzuki's life was interesting. Not a place to learn about Buddhism or delve deeply. Poorly attended.

If you have time to sit around and contemplate, then go for it. If you want to see different things and learn about Japan, skip it. I was through it in 5 minutes. I can meditate as I do yoga back home. Waste of a walk.

I visited the Museum on the day it opened. It is a very beautiful, peaceful space in which to study, meditate and reflect on the work of D. T. Suzuki.

The museum is some 15 mins walk from 21st Century museum. It's very small with just few halls. Get an audio guide, included in the admission, sit and contemplate looking at the water mirror garden.

I was quite looking forward to this visit... to say the least, I was rather disappointed! This is not a museum: there is no explanation about DT Suzuki life, belief, writings or anything else for that matter... one room with 2 pictures, another one with his books (quite a commitment for the average museum visitor - lovely), and then a place to sit and contemplate a somewhat nice water area (with uncomfortable benches)... it is basically a building. Fine... not sure what the big deal is... if you are a huge Suzuki fan and know a lot about him etc, I understand that it might be interesting... otherwise, be ready to use wikipedia to get a sense of why you ended up coming here... same as us, you will probably end up with the conclusion that you should take your loss and go somewhere else! The walk to kenroku garden through the garden at the back is the best part of the so-called museum... apologies to the Suzuki fans for the bad review - I didn't know there were so many of them!!!

We decided to drop by as it was a short walk from the 21st Century Musuem. Motivated mainly by curiosity as I have read a bit about zen and was aware of the works of D.T Suzuki. There is an entrance fee and the few rooms they have are dedicated to the life of the man and his works. There is also a special room where you can sit and stare at a the ' water mirror garden ' - a sort of tranquility pool - as you contemplate whether it was worthwhile visiting this place.

One single worthwhile exhibition makes this an unusual experience - the contemplating room next to the pool and the pool. If and when you come it would make sense to know what Suzuki is all about or spent some hours reading in the library of the ,museum.

Where but Japan would people build an extraordinary museum dedicated to one philosopher? We visited this small museum because we had an extra hour in Kanazawa and had read about it, but we didn't expect the world-class level of museum experience we received. We learned a good deal about Suzuki and his writings, but more importantly (and thrillingly) we experienced what might be one of the world's most perfect buildings. It's right up there with Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Paviliion. Truly. Yoshio Tanaguchi (who also designed NY's Museum of Modern Art) has created something extraordinary in his father's home town. This was a thrilling visit.

Nice to see, we also had an audio tour (free when you buy and entree ticket for 300 yen). If your interested in zen worth a visit and also if you like pretty architecture. We enjoyed this museum. You can spend 15 minutes to as long as you want in the museum.
