I was surprised to see “no photos” at at least one booth, which I really don’t understand. Not every one had this sign up. The smell of seafood is powerful (frankly, I like it!!!) but if you don’t, skip this market. There are a few restaurants that seemed touristy, but also some authentic. I ate in one and found it to be delicious. Note. The market starts closing and cleaning around 5:00p, but it’s also not crowded at all at that time.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 3 October 2023
- 9357MarkYSingapore, Singapore1,983 contributionsEverything from the sea!We walked through the whole market slowly to make sure we covered every side lane and alley. Take in the sight sound and smell of the sea. Some people just stood in front of stalls to eat sashimi off the table. There is plenty to take in. Avoid Wed as many stores are closed.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 November 2023
- SOH KIEN PENGSingapore, Singapore9,555 contributionsLargest fish market in KanazawaOhmicho Market conjures an image of another large fish market in Japan just like Kuromon Fish Market in Osaka or that of Sydney Fish Market. But it looks more like an indoor wet market within a shopping centre with many stalls selling seafood and fishes. It is not like the Jurong Fishery Port in Singapore where imported fish are ferried in by fishery vessels from neighbouring countries and the retailers came to auction for the best wholesale price. Unlike Sydney Fishery Market, there are not many stalls which operate like restaurants for patrons to order their meals here. But I am equally mesmerized by the diversified type of fishes and seafood here that were catches from the Sea of Japan. There are big crabs and urchins but lobsters seem not many. Instead there are more eels than salmon and tuna. We bought some bento eel rice sets for our lunch and some cheap fried fishes costing only $5.90 and $2.50 respectively and stood around a table to have our 'sumptuous' fish lunch. Fishes are abundant in protein and our lunch is considered cheap. There is a food court and a retail pharmacy at the basement and many seafood restaurants at the 2nd floor. There are also gift and sourvenir shops and other than fish, some stalls sold beef and other edible items. Yet, this market was the biggest fish market in Japan during the Edo era and continued to be one in the present.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 14 May 2024
- rjimladMelbourne, Australia159 contributionsInteresting insight into Japanese produceIf you like fish, Omicho Market has you covered. There are things from the sea for sale here you didn't know existed. There's also some fruit and veg, but mostly seafood. In many Asian fish markets, you can nearly die from the smell, but this is Japan and it's different here. It's worth a visit just to see the enormous variety of fishy things you can eat. You can get street food like eel as well. We also saw a famous Sumo wrestler here, so it must be the place to go.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 May 2024
- 88_Gem227 contributionsGreat marketWe went around 1pm Sunday and it wasnt too vusy although some shops were closed, or lower in stock theb in the morning I pressume but still a great visit. We had the gold leaf icecream, I'm a sucker for pretty things at 1,200 yen. Some sea urchin for 800 yen. Some fresh scallops (my fav) for 600 yen. And got a seafood bowl and eel and pickles for I think around 1700 yen from a bigger supermarket style store in the middle. I would recommendVisited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 August 2024
- synTorontoToronto, Canada1,500 contributionsMainly a fresh food market that closes earlyIf you are looking for fresh food in their covered market, then this might be the place to find it. If not, be advised it closes early. Some vendors start closing as early as 4pm. Afterwards, there is virtually nothing to see. There might still be one or two restaurants open but you have to wander to find something. If you are stuck for a restaurant because Omicho is closing, there the Kanazawa department store across the street that has a food area in the basement.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 September 2024

We went to see this based on all the reviews, and having seen the Tokyo fish market we were expecting something similar but on a smaller scale. It is not. It is interesting but it is a market with individual sellers mainly selling very ver priced crab 🦀. Every thing was very expensive compared to prices in Tokyo and Osaka including the sushi trains.

Location - 10 min walk from Kanazawa station
We visited Wed lunch time and bought some sushi and sashimi to bring back to the hotel to eat.
Some stalls have eating areas. There is also an eating hall with tables. There are a few restaurants with lineups, so be sure to arrive before noon.
It’s a fun and interesting place to grab lunch.
As this is a market, it closes early and only available from morning to lunch time

This is the best place to grab a bite to eat in Kanazawa City with the best attitude towards tourists. There are many choices of fresh seafood, and when I visited before crab season, there were still many choices. The price reflects everything. I have tried sea urchins from the same store and at the same price, and the affordable ones are indeed not as good as the more expensive ones. Many stores have English introduction signs, and you can order dishes if you understand Japanese, and most of the stores are enthusiastic and patient in teaching tourists how to eat. The environment is clean and bright, but it would be too embarrassing to eat standing outside the store. The brother of Dasong Fisheries is very nice and I highly recommend him.

Don’t expect this market to be real fish market something like Tokyo Tsukiji or Toyosu market. It is much smaller and tourists friendly market. All shops are covered by roof and has wider corridors. You can taste one bite of different kind of seafood for approx. ¥500-1,000 as well as freshly deep fried beef / shrimp potato cakes for approx ¥200-300. It only take 30-60 min to talk around.

Ōmichō Ichiba has to be one of the top markets of its type in Japan. Far bigger than those in Sendai and other larger cities, Ōmichō Ichiba offers a huge variety of fresh seafood, vegetables, and ready to eat delicacies. In the basement level you will find some great restaurants like Campion's Curry.
I visited in November and the crab season was in full swing. This is worth your time; come hungry.

This is a market you should definitely visit if you go to Kanazawa. There are many shops selling seafood, as well as vegetables, fruits, and souvenirs, so it's fun just to walk around and look around. You can eat while walking around, eat seafood in front of the shops, and drink alcohol, so it's like a carnival. There are also many sushi restaurants and seafood bowl restaurants, so you can sit inside.

Nice place to walk and eat as you visit Kanazawa. It is obvious that sellers have catered for Tourists as there are signs in English. Quite a few shops selling fresh seafood that you can buy and the prepare sashimi for you to eat there. Large Oysters were sold at about ¥1000 each. They were succulent and a real treat. If you intend to eat, probably spend an hour or so at this place.

There are so many seafood restaurants and stores where you can buy fish. It's basically the city's kitchen and located not too far from Kanazawa park. Their kaisendon is slightly pricey but definitely worth trying out. The shops all close around 17:00 in the evening so try to get there early.

Just wondering, if this market has any shop/stall selling dried scallops? The ones used for double-boil soup?
Written 4 July 2019
The scallops in Japan are mostly those individually packed and ready to eat as snacks.
Not sure about the dried ones used for boiling soup.

Hi there, just wondering if there is any halal food shop here in Omicho Market or around Kanazawa?
Written 26 October 2018
There is a curry shop inside the Omicho Market, in the basement. "Go Go curry" you could choose curry. Another choice "AZZAN" is HALAL.

Can you recommend a reasonably priced place for lunch in Omicho Market? I am a fish eater and I think this place will not be as expensive as Tsukiji market in Tokyo. Thank you. Brigid
Written 18 September 2018
Simply all of them.
There are 4 or 5 eateries of various types in the market.
The one we tried looked like a canteen and you choose your food from 2 serving points.
Tasty and different.

一般の個人のお店の集まりなので,ここのお店の状況によります.使えるお店もあれば使えないお店もあります.しかし市場というところの醍醐味として,値切ることも楽しみです!
現金を見せて,値切りの交渉をするのも楽しいですよ.
