It’s quite interesting but I think the admission of 800 Yen is too much. There is not much inside that seems to need maintenance unlike a garden or temple. Some rooms just look like a random collection of trash. Others on the other hand look...More

An overwhelming collection of objects dating from the 50's and 60's in Japan, beautifully presented and divided into theme rooms. You also have a chance to experience playing Pachinko, the original Nintendo, dress up with a Kimono, sit down in an old elementary school class,...More

Was reluctant to pay Y800 for not being sure what to see...was so worth it! Spent a couple of hours here wandering around. Retro, interesting, amazing layout, great pic oops. Just awesome, kids would love it! Very interactive, dress up kimono corner, kids sizes too....More

So much fun and so much to look at. A good look of a not so distant past worth the two hours we were there.

A very retro view of Japan. This was a very interesting look at Japan in the 1950’s and 60’s with a lot of interesting things to look at, interact with and get up close to. Would recommend this place for a brief step back in...More

We really enjoyed our visit here. There are many pop culture type quirky items on show here. There is kind of a theme to the various rooms, but it's more or a display of objects collected over the years. I don't think the museum really...More

Chance upon this museum by accident and we reluctant to pay to visit some old and beat up shop but I was totally blown away by what I saw. Growing up in the 80s and having a decent dose of Japanese culture infused into my...More

It was a surprise to find this place in the middle of such a traditional town, a shop dedicated to the pop culture of the 50's, full of retro toys and kitsch. It was really fun to walk around

This is a recreation of the 1950s with shops, a doctor's office, a schoolroom and several homes as well as thousands of exhibits and a tiny cinema. Even little children can get something out of it as well as letting adults wallow in nostalgia. You...More

This is a must see stop for anyone who visits Takayama! A great collection of all things from the Showa period-Godzilla, movie posters, dishes, you name it, it's there. All items are great examples of vintage mid-century Japanese kitsch, and it's artfully displayed!
