Well restored government building from the Edo period. It gives an interesting insight into the feudal life in Japan in those days. One can wander around in the large building and former storage rooms. Plenty of comments in English. A must do in Takayama.

This fully restored historical government house, allows access into all rooms within this lovely building. Each room has a description of what it was used for & display of items found/used there. The route through the building allows access both inside & out.

Just a complex of old building, used by government then. Not much special, but during winter time, covered in snow, the area around this building to the Nakabashi bridge was super nice to see and enjoy on foot.

Visited and were glad we did. Access a bit cluttered by large school groups and a large number of coaches. Would still give it a go as it's right on the edge of town.

This museum is very interesting, with several different buildings. Very worthwhile. Would have appreciated a tour in English.

The former government historical house and the only surviving regional government office out of about 60.Looking like a temple outside, inside a series of interwoven rooms all with their tatami mats, hence shoes off. Loved the way this building was built and how everything links...More

This old house looks like a temple but was actually used as a government building and is very well preserved, in fact the only one of its kind left in Japan. Our tour was conducted in English so we were able to understand everything easily...More

The only former government outpost from the Edo period still standing in Japan. Best to go with a guide (or someone who knows their history of the place) who is able to bring out the history of Takayama as you traverse through the many rooms....More
