LOVED This place. Little slice of heaven. Onsens were beautiful. I was the only westerner there (which I liked), most others were Japanese travelers from other places in Japan. Staff was okay (not the most friendly compared to other places in Japan, but very nice). I went there to do Onsen and decided to spend the night, which they were... More

We stayed at Takayama and took a Nohi bus from Takayama station to Shin-Hotaka Ropeway in Dec 2016. On the way, we stopped at Hirayu onsen bus station to discover this wonderful small town. Plenty of Ryokan with hot springs as well as a ski area. There is also connecting bus to Toyama from this Hirayu station. Winter is cold... More

we chose a ryokan in this resort because it is close to kamikochi and more reasonably priced. an added benefit was that our ryokan had its own onsen - both public and private). conveniently located between takayama and kamikochi.

Another must visit place. Just a small town with limited shop and eateries but abundance of hotel with public bath from natural hot spring. What a nice place for retreat and relaxation. And the view is a bonus.

Hirayu Onsen is located between Kamikochi and Takayama, and many passenger need to change their bus here. So, it is good to stop over and take a rest here. Just in front of bus stop there is a public bath and foot bus. It is quite relaxing to take a bath after hiking in Kamikochi.

I stopped in Hirayu on the way to the Shin-tanaka ropeway. I went to the onsen located right in the building where buses stop, but I wasn’t thrilled. I’m used to outdoor hot springs in the Canadian Rockies. In this case, the main bath was inside (though you could see the mountains through the window), the décor was a little... More

You take the Nohi bus for Hirayu Onsen. When we arrived at the bus station we were offered a package ticket which worked out much cheaper than doing things on an individual basis. It was ¥6990 each and included the return bus trip for the Shin-Hotaka Ropeway which includes the smaller Ropeway that connects to the bigger double decker Ropeway.... More

Thermal care in an Onsen is an awesome experience. Staying in a tipical ryokan after resting in hot waters is some kind of a dream. Suggested!

I stayed at Miyama Ouan in Hirayu. Very nice ryokan. The hot spa is enjoyable. Breakfast and dinner delicious. It was freezingly cold that day. The staff is so thoughtful as to put warm pads in our shoes. It's a pity we stayed only one night. The town itself is quiet and peaceful. Bus station is 6 minutes walk from... More

We visited by 6 members by motorcycle. We reserved 1 room in total 6 members. Building structured old and new mixed. My favorite is old side building. It has nice smell and history. Onsen of outside is so large. If you need your private small onsen, you can reserve it. Staff of this hotel are so kindly for travelers. We... More
