Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I gave it 5 as rate because when I entered there I didn't pay anything. The fort itself is not very interesting but from few touristy places that the city has to offer it is worth visiting. As I mentioned - 5 was because I didn't pay if for any reason there would be someone charging entry fees it is not worth seeing.

Nice place to see during aqaba visit. A historical place was built 16th century I think and was a Ottoman castle for a while. Has a strategic location on the Aqaba bay and has a beautiful view.

On our taxi tour of Aqaba one of the good stops was the Aqaba Castle. A building which dates back to 1510AD and has seen a lot of action over the years! The locals are slowly restoring the area to it's previous glory and are doing a good job. The old Fort/Castle has had a varied life mixed between renos and major destruction and is now firmly on the reno track! Pilgrims used to use the fort as a caravanserai on the way to Mecca, Good to see it re-born.

From the outside, it looks very impressive. Sadly it is close for restoration.
You can still capture an idea of how impressive it was and take some nice photos.

Just submitted this review as whilst the Castle is still there it is currently closed whilst the flagpole Square and the surroundings undergo a renovation.
Not much to see from the outside.

Set in the main square, by the big flagpole. It is a common place where local hang around. We were going to get in but it was closed and never got another chance. However, it is a stop worth taking, the place also offers a nice view of the end of Gulf of Aqaba (Jordan), you can clearly see Eilat (Israel) and the Sinai Peninsula (Egypt)

While strolling along the Corniche you will eventually reach the big flag pole: at this point turn inland, pass through the visitors center (small museum isn't really worth neither your time nor the price of the ticket) where you can rest on the benches in the shady courtyard and use toilet for free and immediately after you'll reach the small castle. It has been heavily damaged during the Great Arab Revolt and only partially restored later. In fact, there is nothing to be seen inside, so you can easily limit your "visit" to a quick glance to the interior from the street behind the castle (as there is a gentle slope, the street is on a higher level than the courtyard of the castle) without paying the entrance fee.

Lovely castle that requires about twenty minutes of time to see, explore and read. Not sure why the reviews hover around 'average' for the majority as it is indeed a nice castle to see. Entry is free and it is located by the main museum and the Arab Revolt flagpole (flag raised late morning - quite the site as well from the castle!).
