I had time to spare before our departure and wanted to know more about David Livingstone than the one we’ll known quote! It was very cheap to go in but I found the first couple of exhibitions quite dull and no different to other museums all over the world. I began to wonder if I was going to find anything about Mr Livingstone and then I found his exhibition and was able to learn a lot more about him than I knew. The ‘our family’ display was good as was the closing exhibition of the development of Zambia, so as is normally the case, some parts of the museum were interesting to me, some weren’t.

This nice museum covers not just the life of David Livingstone, but also the history of human life on earth, with incredible fossils that have been recovered in Zambia. There is so much history here, right up to modern times. Students of Zambian history will really love this museum. It is also worthwhile to look at some of David Livingstone's original letters, which are protected under glass, but available for all to see and read.

The curio shop is also nice, because the prices are very reasonable.

Not so excellent!
It’s a bit of a time machine, taking one back to the
Museums of the 80s - dusty artifacts, painted scenes and old photos.

Interesting section on David Livingstone, with plenty to read including some of his letters.

Everything if clean and cared for, just all a little tired and in need of new life.

No photos allowed.

The Livingstone Museum was a great place to get more information about Zambia as a country and also to learn more about Dr. David Livingstone. The cost of the museum is reasonably priced. One can pay in dollars or the local currency which is positive, The museum also offers a free guided tour included in the cost of admission.

I had a wonderful tour guide on the day that I went ( I cannot remember her name) and the tour lasted a couple hours. There is a really nice gift shop at the end of the tour.

I do want to mention that I shared a special moment witha staff member, Miriam, at Livingstone Museum. I asked for a food recommendation and Miriam suggested the restaurant located outside of the museum as a good place to try local food. Miriam was spot on in her recommendation and appreciated our interaction and also her remembering my name the next day when she saw me.

I recommend visiting the Livingstone Museum while in Livingstone.

This museum was a joy to visit. The exhibits were well kept and covered everything from Dr. Livingstone and his life to the history of Zambia covering its people and wildlife.
The museum was very informative and has managed to stay away from the upsetting trend in museums of information being reduced in an effort to modernise.

It was perfect to do in about 2 hours and had an amazing breadth of exhibits.

Dr David Livingstone Museum, a very prominent building situated on the main road to Livingstone city centre. This is the oldest and largest museum in Zambia and after purchasing the entry ticket made my way into the museum where the first section was on the evolution of the human race in Zambia. There were various sections and found the "Natural History" section of interest getting to identify various African species of birds and mammals. There is a entire section devoted to the life history of Dr David. Livingstone.

My expectations were not met, it is a museum with a modest exhibition where posters, paintings, panels and representations of life in the villages and contemporary history of Zambia predominate. They prohibit taking photographs inside which is disappointing.
Some letters from the distinguished explorer and missionary David Livingstone.
It has a small store where I could buy souvenirs and drink sodas.

I had a guided tour at the museum. Entry is $5, and on top of that a tip for the guide. Museum is the most important in Zambia. It tells the story from the pre stoneage till current. It has a big collection from Dr Livingstone including clothes, books and letters, and tells his story. The guide was good and had many interesting anecdotes on what we saw. Well worth the tip. The museum has a nice gift shop with very fair prices.

Livingstone Museum has rich cultural heritage and lifestyle of the indigenous Zambians. It encompasses the daily life of Zambians, their heritage, history, beliefs, religion, education, natural resources and their slave trade experiences. It gives a clear picture of who Zambians are. It is a must visit hub.

Because we had extra one hour, decided to visti this museum and it was well worth it. Exhibition is quite versatile and there are many quite unique relics to see. If you have time, I recommend to visit here as you get better view not only to Mr. Livingstone itself, but to Zambian and partly to African history.
