The main complaint o have read and agree with is overcrowding. A bit over 4.5 hours in the heat even in carts.

Otherwise......

Lovely people as per all of Vietnam. Fairly straightforward course with some tricky tucked away greens. Found it hard to guess the pace putting from off the greens. The brain wouldn't let me hit the ball hard enough and came up frustratingly shortish a few times.

It's not a silly resort course with hidden ponds all over the place. It's a proper golf course and very playable with a knowledgeable caddie.

Just a word or 2 of preparation...
For your (reasonable) green fee you get a cart and caddie.

You will pay for EVERYTHING else so bring balls tees and sunscreen and anything else you may need other than food or drinks that are not allowed from outside sources.

Interesting golf course. I wouldn't exactly call it a Links style course. It has many bunkers and some undulation but lots of water and tree areas. Overall it was in good condition and fun to play.

The overall experience was great, very nice facilities and the caddies were excellent. The caddies were phenomenal at reading the greens (if only I could have hit the putts where they told me)

This is a really nice course and is well cared for. The staff were all very friendly, and my caddie Tam was great. The price is a little steep in my opinion, but i guess that is based on demand.

Dear Rico Thanks for the great comments on you days golf here with us , especially your mention of Miss Tam who caddied for you on the day, our Caddies here make the experience of playing golf in Vietnam even more enjoyable, especially for those that may have never had a caddy before, we take our caddy training very seriously and we are always so very pleased when a guests takes the time to mention a caddy by name. I can tell you that Miss Tam received a special award due to you taking the time to post and will also use your positive comments in training with the entire group. Thanks again and we wish you the very best. Taylor Murphy Director of Golf

The course is on a busy road with the associated noise. There are some unsightly building ruins all around, and yet more is being built. Waste is burned on the construction sites, so the whole course stinks. The course has seen its best days. The surrounding courses are nicer. Work is being done on the course, but it is done very carelessly. The employees in general seem to be rather unmotivated, which is reflected in the quality of the course, from the tees to the green. The practice green had a completely different speed to the greens on the course. It has many bare patches, the bunkers are rock hard and have not been leveled for days. I can't shake the feeling that management has failed here. They also issue completely nonsensical rules. For example, as a couple we were not allowed to share the driving range balls!! Everyone had to buy an overpriced basket of balls. You weren't even allowed to warm up on the mat unless you paid extra for it, and that was with a completely overpriced green fee. We recommend giving this course a wide berth and playing Ba Na Hills, for example.

Golf in Asia is usually well organized, carts are assigned, caddies are introduced, you putt and go to the driving range. Unfortunately that’s not the case here. The set up is prolonged and disorganized likely because they have too many golfers on the course for what they can manage. There’s signs in the cart on pace of play on a hole by hole basis, unfortunately they’re largely ignored. No marshalls and sometimes 3 deep on a tee led to a 5 hour 30 minute round which wasn’t much fun. At the request of the staff we politely let the senior manager in the pro shop know of our experience and her only response was to refuse to accept US currency for payment as it was ‘flawed’. It’s a shame because the golf course and the caddies are both great.

The new management is definitely taking this place from bad to worst. Fairway quality is sub-standard no maintenance whatsoever for consecutive months. potholes divots not fixed, marshals have no idea how to speed up slow players , food served cold while charges increase ridiculously over time. Long-time staff appear to be helpful although they have no say. Da Nang, Hoi An and Lang co, Hue have much better clubs.

The course is not bad, but absolutely not good either. Fairways are not maintained well enough and greens are slow and needs a loving hand.
Caddies are ok, needs to be better at English.
Won’t be back.

I stayed in Hoi An for 3 days and emailed the club in advance to see if I could book a tee time and hire clubs and shoes. I received no response so contacted the again direct via website. Again no response. I was disappointed to say the least. I won't ever bother with a Montgomery club abroad again. Managed to sort a game out at another local club, which was very good.

We recently arranged to play this course through Golfasia, using this agent to facilitate the coordination of accommodation, transfers and flight times. Owing to rainy weather forecast and having played DaNang Golf Course the day before in rain, we cancelled our booking at Montgomery Links.
To our amazement the Montgomery Links refused to refund any portion of the green fees prepaid. A contradiction of consumer laws in many developed countries I would suggest. Questioning our agent Golfasia we 'mystery shopped' Montgomery Links who confirmed that green fees must be paid at time of booking and are not refundable owing to weather etc.
The customer service person there agreed the only way to obviate this risk is to take a chance and wait until the morning you wish to play then book, particularly in the wet season.
Golfasia refunded USD $42, their own in initiative we appreciated.
So fellow travellers take heed.

The course itself is most enjoyable even if the greens played quite slow. Fairways are in excellent condition. Caddies are not optional and their cost is added onto the total fee. Ours were barely OK compared to the exceptional ones at Da Nang GC.

Things got a bit sour at the end of the game. When we thanked our caddies and gave them a tip, we were greeted by long faces. Without any tact, the caddie master stepped in and said that they should be tipped an additional US$15 each on top of their hire fee. Given the original green fee, caddie fee and barely adequate level of service, I found this to be outrageous. Had they been cheerful and good, I would have considered it but not with the dour service we received.

We questioned this tip issue with reception and they informed us that $10 is usual. My issue is not the amount but the poor service and the EXPECTATION of a large gratuity.

Visitors beware.

Dear Andrew I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your comments and you can be assured we take them very seriously. Although tipping is widley accepted in the Asian region, Montgomerie Links in no way considers it compulsory and we strongly believe it to be a personal choice of our member and guest based on their overall satisfaction of service received. We can also assure you that your comments will be used in further training of our staff moving forward. Thank you for making Montgomerie Links a part of your holiday and we hope to see you again in the near future. Taylor Murphy Director of Golf Montgomerie Links Vietnam
