Great experience & journey to get there
Feb. 2020 • Friends
We did the market experience as well as the cooking school. Great day being guided around through the busy markets and well worth the early wake up.
Boat trip is beautiful and the house is amazing. So amazing to see the grandma and all the old ways of cooking and preparing food.
Lastly the food was great! They even give you a recipe book. 100% worth it.

Excellent Experience!
Feb. 2020
We signed up for the Market Tour with the boat ride to the cooking class - perfect start to the day and we still got back in time to make use of the afternoon / evening. The activities were well-thought out and the small group (6 adults) made for a relaxed environment. The market tour was informative and it was a great way to learn about not-so-obvious uses for familiar items, and sample/ask questions about other ingredients that were directly incorporated into the recipes we later made. The class itself was hands-on and we cooked 4 different dishes, but we also had time to enjoy a presentation by Grandma, some quick breaks to wander on the back roads of the small island village, and our lovely host shared details about growing up in the area and day to day life. Boat ride to and from the village was another highlight, allowing views of the river and net fishing we otherwise wouldn't have seen. After running around so much on our short vacation and feeling rushed on other tours we'd been on, this was a welcome change of pace - and we have already made some of the dishes at home! Definitely recommend!

Fun cooking day in the countryside for the whole family
Jan. 2020
We had a great day learning to cook with Vi. We went with a family ofr 5, our 8 and 9 year old had their own cooking station, our 4 year old helped along with us. Both us and the kids enjoyed it. We first had a market tour where we learned about all the different herbs, fruits and veggies used. By boat we went to the countryside to grandma´s home. Here we made rice paper by ourselves and five other dishes. The food was really yummy and more than enough. And absolutely fun day with Vi as a great and funny cook!

Good fun making some tasty food
Dec. 2019
My girlfriend and I went for the market tour followed by the cooking class. Our guide/teacher, Vi, was brilliant! We learnt lots about what to look for when buying fresh ingredients from the market and we had an excellent time turning them all into delicious dishes in the class on the island. One of my favourite memories of Hoi An and of our entire Vietnam trip!

Delicious experience
Feb. 2020 • Friends
My friend and I participated in the cooking class with grandma. It was very well organized and we not only cooked some delicious Vietnamese recipes but we also got interesting facts about how rice is processed traditionally.
All in all the day was a very nice experience and we will definitely cook the dishes at home for family and friends.

A cooking lesson in which there was more than cooking
Jan. 2020
My husband and I chose this because he likes to learn about a variety of different cuisines. We booked in for market tour and cooking lesson.
The young lovely host took us through the markets and talked to us about the foods purchased for the class and some more interesting facts. The market was a real eye opener and not for faint hearted. We saw different fruits , vegetables, fish, and meats. We were privy to sleeping store holders, pigs heads with bulging eyes and slippery floors. The smells and tastes were quite educational.
We then took a boat to the island (still with Vi our lovely host) out to farmhouse with outdoor cooking kitchen.
Grandma made a cameo appearance where she showed the process of separating freshly harvested rice from husks. Grandma is 94 years and able to squat within an inch of the floor!! With a few amazing flick of rice in baskets she had almost perfectly separated the rice from husks then she left the class to Vi . It was lots of fun and we learnt many techniques and ate soo much food.
I had a great night and I hate cooking

A Truly Unforgettable Experience for the whole family
Jan. 2020 • Family
Our family with two teens spent the day with the Thom, an inspirational, intelligent and savvy teacher and guide for our experience. We woke up early to head to the market for a tour and tasting of many local delicacies and some food shopping. Then, we took a boat to grandma’s small and charming island where we spent the afternoon cooking delicious Vietnamese dishes and learning about Thom and her remarkable life. Our children listened intently as Thom talked about growing up without electricity and without high school due to limited family funds. It was an amazing day in which we learned about Vietnamese culture the most up-close and personal way. This remained a favorite day in the memories of this trip- and one that we shall never forget. This excursion is not to be missed!

Vi was an awesome host, and it was a lot of fun to take the boat trip to the island! The food we made was delicious, and I'm planning to use the recipe book to recreate the same dishes back home.

Market tour and cooking class
Jan. 2020 • Friends
We had a great day with Vi! Just me and my brother did the market tour (which was great) and then we got to hang out and talk to her for awhile while we waited for 7 more who were joining for the class. She told us a lot about what it's like to be a young person in Vietnam. The boat ride out is about an hour, so pretty long, but worth it for the destination!

You do indeed get to meet grandma ( the woman is a ninja...she was there...then she'd vanished) and get to grind some rice and make some rice milk the traditional way. Making our own rice paper was amazing too...even if mine was a bit special.

We made an appetizer, a salad, a side, and a main, and they gave us soup and dessert on top of all that!!!! We were stuffed.

So much fun, and such a special and unique experience. I'm excited to try the recipes at home!
