It is not special. It's just a river. The nice thing is that here you can catch a breeze on a hot day, while strolling along it. There are a number of restaurants nearby. Read up on them first as not all of them are...More

This was a big bonus of the day - it was awe inspiring to cross the Rio de la Plata. Is it a river, an estuary or a marginal sea? It is over 200 kms wide at its mouth. In my delightful ignorance, I thought...More

We crossed the Rio de la Plata in the evening (in January), and the ride/water was really smooth. The Plata was bigger than I was expecting, and browner, as well. I wouldn't really recommend, say, swimming in it, but it's nice to sail across or...More

We stayed two nights in Colonia and explored it walking.Rio de la plata had an awesome view during sunset. It’s a beautiful place to sit down and relax and just watch life go by slowly a must see place when you visit Colonia

As this is just a wide river there's not much change in water or sky colour, even though its size makes it seems like a sea. Featureless.

At first, it's a bit hard to wrap your head around the vastness of this part of the Rio de la Plata. I mean, it's just across the river from Buenos Aires right? But this is a river where full-on ocean going ships can travel...More

The walking area twists and turns around the waterfront and it's a nice place to stroll and explore if you're walking the old town. However, it isn't all that much fun in bad weather as it's not sheltered at all and the wind/rain can be...More

The intime link that exists between a a river and a city set on the riverside is evident also in Colonia del Sacramento with respect to impressive Rio de la Plata, which separates Uruguay from neighboring Argentina. The river is undoubtedly most important part of...More

Not like at a lake. Some small sandy places not a real beach. Where we finished we were at a landing with grassy area, tables a md facilities.
