We didn't go in the museum proper but I saw the whale skeleton when I was driving by and made a special point to stop and get out of the golf cart. I've probably seen a whale skeleton before but there was something about the way this one was displayed, along with the other bones in the yard, that I... More

Here the entrance fee is 50 Uruguay pesos and you have access to seven museums. It is small but a good place to start I order to understand the complicated history of Colonia.

I was running the treadmill of all the small museums in Colonia, and just walked in here with no expectations whatsoever. What I found was a beautiful old building inside, filled with just mad things. One room on the history of Colonia, another on bull-fighting, another on period furniture, another on taxidermy (including amazing old collections of native birds, insects... More

We visited this museum as it looked interesting, but actually found it pretty dull. The downstairs rooms were all just collections of objects with very little information provided. Upstairs the focus was on natural history, but again with not much accompanying info. It was cool to see some fossils of giant mammals, but all the stuffed animals and the insects... More

Colonia’s municipal museum is the oldest in the town. It showcases historical items from different periods of Colonia's history including a palaeontology section. The building dates back to 1795.

Some fóssil, some tools of indigenous people and a little more, as historical XVIII century weapons and rustical furniture.

Worth visiting to see the tools of indigenous people as well as some fossils. Other than that not much to see.

I wouldn't bother crossing the road to see this one again. Small with not much information and very little to see. The proper English descriptive word would be 'pants!'
