The oldest church in the city. It dates from 1680. Of course, this is not the original one which was small and unpretentious. The present church dates back to 1810. Some 40 years ago it underwent a serious restoration, including a conceptual refurbishment. A World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Next to the Plaza Mayor in the Historic Centre.

This was right across the square from where we had lunch, so it was an easy decision to stop in. I've called it quirky because it certainly didn't have the traditional ornamentation one expects in a Catholic church. There were wooden sculptures hanging from the ceiling and a paper grotto where the fake rocks were made out of wadded up... More

Twin tower white exterior dominates Plaza de Armas The white colour scheme continues into the interior with little of the paraphanalia you would expect in later catholic churches

The Plaza de Armas is the central area in town with some very interesting little shops and resturants as well as lots of history. Visited during an NCL walking tour and had a fantastic local lunch. Most of the history is within walking distance of the Plaza so if you have a group this is an easy meeting point.

The church is simple inside but with statues and features covering a number of years. An opportunity to stop and collect your thoughts

This church was very quiet, peaceful and not particularly ornate. It was simple and well worth the visit.

I've seen a lot of churches, and this one is one of my favorits. It is small, but really calm somehow and also the light is perfect. Great to stop by and spend a few minutes.

Located in the center of the town. The interior is very plain, so it only takes a few minutes to look around.
