Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Museum is a too big word for this landmark. There are, in fact, about 3 small halls placed in Marmaris castle that house some not very spectacular exhibits: ceramics, fragments of statues, fragments of columns, coins, tombstones, jewelries. The access is included in the price of the entrance ticket to the castle, 27TL. Open daily 10:00-19:30.

Near the town center up a flight of steps from the harbour area. Entrance fee was 225TL cash for adult entry.
It’s a nice castle from 1500 with interesting artefacts and museum showing local items.
Nice view from the top over Marmaris
I would recommend a visit

As mentioned by others the only bit of real cultural in Marmaris and well worth a visit, but only if castles and stuff are ‘your thing’. Most (?) visitors to Marmaris may prefer to spend their €6 on a couple of drinks or a knock off T shirt ?

The museum was opened in 1991 to the public. It has a nice garden and a small collection of historical artifacts from the Byzantine Empire and the Hellenistic State. A bit of a climb over cobblestones and sensible shoes are required. Do not recommend it for strollers or wheelchairs.
TIP As it has a commanding view of the harbour below, it's a great place to take photos.

A beautiful castle, with fantastic views and an incredibly interesting history.
This castle is well worth the 100TL for entrance which is about £3 each!!
The artefacts are well documented and are all very interesting.
The castle building is beautiful and the views are amazing.

Have been to Marmaris a few times before but this was the first time visiting the castle. Entry was 40 Lira (~£2) and well worth it. Multiple rooms showing parts of Turkey's history, lovely colourful gardens and really great views of Marmaris.
You wander up through the old town meaning you find little trinket shops, nice cafes etc on your way too. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for something to do. Probably takes around 45 mins.

Nice castle built in the 1500’s. Plenty of artefacts from Knidos on the Datca peninsula. Great views of Marmaris harbour and beyond. Close to the harbour and Grand Bazaar. Plenty of steps to negotiate. 100ytl entrance fee. Toilets within.

Visited the castle / museum as probably the only tourist attraction in Marmaris. It was OK, albeit fairly small. Pay on admission and the price was reasonable for what there was.
However I cannot say that this is a 'must see' attraction.
Steps are fairly steep.
Nice views over the harbour

This was worth a visit. The walk around the little side streets around the castle is pleasant and gives the opportunity for some lovely photos and you get an old world feel as you walk around. The Castle is cheap to enter, at only a few Lira, and gives a great vantage point for photographs of Marmaris. It also has the usual dislays of archaelogical finds and gives an insight into the history of the area and highlights some of the the other nearby ruins. It also offers a pleasant garden area inside to sit and also get some shade from the searing sun.

This place has an outstanding landscape, inside the castle the gardens are truly brilliant. The panoramic views of Marmaris bay are truly magnificent. You can also look down on the beautiful cobbled streets around the marina.
If you plan to visit this attraction in the main summer months (July / August), I'd recommend visiting this place in the morning when it's not as hot. As this place is a sun trap.

How long does it take to get around on average
Written 5 October 2016
Yes it is quite small but very interesting. Also nice to walk along the battlements on a sunny day and look at the beautiful view. If you are looking for an alternative to sitting on the beach or going on a boat trip but learning a bit of history at the same time, then this is the one for you
