Not obvious to find but well worth visiting!
Aug. 2020
We actually ended up going twice to try and find Af Kule as it really wasn't obvious how to find it. It's well worth it when you do and not that hard to get to!

Off of the main road, when you see the sign to turn to Af Kule, turn right onto the road but make sure you continue essentially straight on what looks like a logging road (do not turn right towards the camping area - we made that mistake the first time as the sign was pointing that way as it's not longer sitting properly on a tree!). So follow a brown (in summer) and fairly new looking logging type road. You can drive as far as you can (we have all wheel drive on our car and it was fine but a smaller car may have some issues, particularly if there is rain). The road ends at a fairly obvious spot (when we went in August -there was someone staying there complete with caravan, puppy and various chickens). Park your car and then follow the fairly obvious path towards Af Kule.

At one point, there is a fork in the road - make sure you go right (when we went, someone had helpful put some stones marking the path and pointing right). Keep on walking. It is about 15-20 minutes from where you park where you will find yourself in front of a sign (with yellow arrows) that points to Kayakoy (in two directions) and Darbogaz. From here you need to head DOWN the cliff/hill (towards the sea) . Honestly, this isn't at all obvious and it can take as long as ten minutes to walk down the cliff/hill until you see Af Kule.

We went down not far enough the first time, then in the other direction (which is a lovely part of the Lycian way but not what we were looking for), etc. ... but came back, stubbornly, the next day to find it and were successful!

You can also walk here I'm sure from Kayakoy and from parts of the Lycian way trail (hence the yellow sign-posts).

There is no water / amenities of any kind so make sure you bring anything you may need. If you drive, and find it right away, you may only need water. It looks like a nice place to stop and have a picnic.

We went in August so the trail was dry but also slippery (and perhaps not best suited to those with any vertigo). Good hiking shoes or runners are a must.

This is an amazing but small site and well worth a visit. The views were amazing!

Must see while around Kayaköy
Jun. 2017 • Couples
Old Greek ruins, partly carved into the rock.
Magnificent place to stop, relax on the cliff above the sea. We have slept there, with fireplace possibilty next to you. But if you don't have bug net to sleep in, or tent, you would be eaten alive by mosquitos. They appear later in the afternoon... and also in the morning you must very quickly pack and escape from them. Bring lots of water. It is 1,5 hrs walk from Kayaköy to the West. Some final parts of descent are rather steep, so not for everybody.

a hike, but worth the view!
Sep. 2016 • Solo
The site requires a 30 min hike from the main road.
there are no signs, you basically follow the trail. if you take a wrong turn, backtrack.
someone did mark stones and trees with yellow and blue paint, but it's not at certain intervals. just randomly.

It's at the end of an enjoyable trekking route. When you reach the sea,on the side of the hill you'll see this tower carved on the rocks. It's said that on clear days one can see Rhodes, but thanks to humidity we couldn't see it.

Af Kule Monastery
Jun. 2014 • Friends
With sweeping views across the Mediterranean this little known ruined monastery is well worth a visit. Supposedly built by hand by a single monk it seems to grow out of the cliff face. Situated a couple of miles outside the village of Kaya Koy you can either drive or walk to the makeshift car park below the monastery, before completing the climb up on foot, note the half mile climb although not difficult the ground is quite rough underfoot and on reaching the top you have to climb down to the monastery itself. There is a regular bus service from Fethiye to Kaya and if you tell the driver you are visiting the monastery he will drop you at the far side of the village so its less of a walk. Please there are no facilities here at all so I would recommend taking a packed lunch and have a picnic there.
