I was told on multiple occasions that the clock tower is the most important site in all of Izmir and the symbol of the city. It is fairly close to the water front and the market area. The square itself is not that crowded, even on a Saturday, so you can easily enjoy the walk to and around the tower. It doesn't not take long to see or get to from the main hotels in town, so it is a nice little excursion.

This beautiful clock tower is situated in a grand plaza across the street from the promenade along the seashore. It is also at one end of the main street to the bazaar. The bazaar itself is worth strolling through as all of the merchants have their wares on display both inside and outside of their stalls/shops. Prices seem to be a bargain!

An important point of Izmir. Not only is it located on the Kordon, it is also close to Kemeraltı and Kızağası bazaars. At Kızlar Ağası fish home restaurant, you can eat fried food, stuffed mussels and fish, drink coffee and buy souvenirs.

The clock tower is a beautiful piece of architecture mixed with history. The tower is in the center of a plaza that encompasses the entrance to the market, a beautiful mesquite and other nice buildings. The only problem is that the place is always crowded with locals and visitors fact that makes difficult taking pictures

A stunning clock with its interesting history
1. This tower is although short but gorgeous. No wonder it appears in a 500 lira banknote in Turkey during the 1980s.
2. The clock itself is a gift by the Germans, so not only ottoman architecture you can see, but a German clock itself too.
3. Anyway, remember to bring your camera and take more pictures. There is a mosque nearby and there is a great sea view over there. There is plenty of juice shops over there so in case you are thirsty, buy some juices.

A must see in izmir situated by the pier buzzing with activity and near government offices. A very photographed place. Locanters, shops and near transport. Ice cream sellers in little carts and birds being fed lots of places to see nearby taxis and parking plentiful..enjoy

Saat Kulesi is a historic clock tower in Konak Square in the center of Izmir, Turkey. The Levantine French architect Raymond Charles Père designed the Izmir Clock Tower. It was built in 1901 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Abdülhamid II's accession to the throne. The sultan actually celebrated his 25th anniversary by having more than 100 clock towers built in public squares throughout the Ottoman Empire.

Saat Kulesi is one of the first things you think of when you think of Izmir. Situated in Konak Square this Ottoman era tower houses a clock which was a gift from the German emperor to the then Ottoman ruler Abdul Hamid II.
It is ornate and in typical late Ottoman style and it is a focal point in Konak. I have many memories of this tower from my youth as a child right through visits to Izmir as an adult. I always make the time to visit it.
