Yakutiye Medrese offers a glimpse into the way how Mongolians used and developed Seljuk architectural patterns: note elabotrate carvings surrounding the main portal of the building, mosaic tile work at the only surviving minaret and, once inside, stalactite work lining the inside of the main...More

This building has beautiful sonework, and is definitely worth a quick visit, especially since there are other sites like the citadel and twin-minaret medrese nearby. When we were there in August 2011 (not allowed to choose this from the menu below), there was a display...More

We visited in the early morning and had the place to ourselves .The main tourist sights are all within walking distance of each other . This place in addition to the beautiful architecture boasts a museum which is well heated.

Nice historic place in Erzurum. We visited the museum inside where you can learn about the history of this city. Good to visit with family

The schools of Turkey's past are filled with character and present a different perspective of learning/teaching styles. This school was nice to visit to see where the students and how the students of the time learned.

Spectacular from the outside, Erzurum's second huge Seljuk medresa is of the covered variety. Entrance is 5TL and the inside has been set up to provide a somewhat eclectic selection of displays in the former cells of the students

There is no reason to spend too much time in this top conservative city. Good for a short stop between the airport and places east.

Unfortunately this was closed since we visited on a Monday. However, the exterior has meny interesting reliefs, including those of lions and a bird. It also has a strange minaret which appears to `grow' through the roof!
