About
This imposing mountain and former volcano is now a resort area used for skiing and other winter sports. In summer, mountaineers generally attempt climbs from June through September, before the snows arrive at the higher elevations.

We visited Erciyes in the first week of Jan 2020. Snow all around. One of the most beautiful places I've been to. You can rent Ski equipment from a number of the shops at the ski center and also take lessons. Prices are similar in all the shops. We took our gear and ski lessons from Alberg(instructor:ozlan)had a great experience.

From the Kayseri Aitport it takes only half an hour to reach the ski resort. The facilities are world standart and all prices are afforable. Just take a flight to Kayseri and rent a car less than 50 Dollar. The rooms are also less than 70 Dollar. Lunch cost only 15 dollar for three. Roads are very comfortable. So for a afforable ski experice choose Erciyes

Erciyes was really among the most value for many Ski Resort in the world. It has cheap entrance fee, enjoyable attraction (Cable car, sky chairs), affordable ski equipment rentals (ski sets, snow mobile/sliders, etc) and restaurants. It is also conveniently located like 30-45 minutes from the Kayseri city center.

Getting There
There are multiple options, but I suggest taking an airplane from Istanbul to Kayseri. (Anadolu or Pegasus airline fly from US$15/one way).

Getting to the mt erciyes itself can be done by taxi (TL120), your hotel shuttle (TL40), or by public bus (TL5). If you are interested in getting public (mini)bus, wait at the Seyyid Berhanuddin boulevard, next to the roundabout (in front of Yat Otel). There will be a white Mercedez mini bus, with DEVALI sign (sometimes the sign is small or no sign, though). Devali is actually a place just outside kayseri and on the way to Devali, you will pass at mt. Erciyes ski resort bus stop where you should stop. (On the return trip, you will wait at the same stop, heading to the opposite direction). Don’t sleep during the trip as it only takes 30 minutes ride. Its actually easier than I thought, and much cheaper.

Staying
Except if you are serious ski-er, I recommend you to stay at Kayseri city center (with multiple hotels available). Hilton hotel, for example, is located right at the heart of kayseri city facing mt. erciyes dan many landmarks.

What to do
For seasonal and non professional ski tourist like me, I spend my day in erciyes by renting ski equipment or snowslider (TL 30-100) and try to slide. You can also hire private instructor, but can be much more expensive. Tired of sliding, take a cable car going up an down or do hiking. After hundreds of pictures taken, sip a cup of tea and hot corba at the cafes.

When to come
Come at the morning as afternoon weather is not as good as morning. Be prepared to go back to Kayseri around 3 pm.

Having skied most of my life in Europe it was with reservation we chose to holiday in Kayseri and ski in Erciyes. We live in Turkey and had made the trip to Bansko for the last 8 years for our family winter holiday.

The close proximity to the airport means that you could be on the slopes within and hour of your flight landing (transfer from airport is about 30 minutes).

We have chosen to stay in an apartment in Talas (modern suburb of Kayseri) and drive the 30 minutes to the resort.

There is free parking within 300mts or on-site parking for 5 TL (Turkish Lira) which is 50mts from the slopes.

This is a Council controlled resort which means the prices are very reasonable and certain basics are fixed price e.g. Ski Hire - 50 TL, Daily Lift Pass 70 TL, Mixed Toastie and chips 8.5 TL, Coffee 5 TL.

I found very little accurate information on the ski area but I would say it is similar to a small European resort I would say it would take a day to ski every single slope, so there is plenty to do, and other than the main social area Tekir Kapi, the slopes are very quiet (even though we are in peak season with Turkish School Holiday).

There are very modern facilities including gondolas and 6 person HEATED seat chair lifts along with 4 seaters and a couple of t-bars.

If you are decent Skier then Hisarcik Kapi is probably the best area to start as it is central to all the areas, quieter and easier to navigate to, It has a Ski Hire shop here and the Number 7 Lift which takes you to almost 3000m and has a nice Red piste back down.

We have only been for one day but are here for 2 weeks so will update this if necessary.

We stayed 3 days in February. It is a very good place for the beginners, a lot of easy slopes, wide and long. Weather first 2 days was -1 and very sunny, last day- cloudy and very windy. Quality of snow first 2 days was really good, the 3 day it started a bit melting but still was fine. The problem is if u don’t speak Turkish, u don’t understand none of the notifications and especially important u don’t understand when the chairlifts closing. And there is no navigation in the beginning of the slope, no maps, just some signs with a small number of slope on it- that’s it. So sometimes you simply do not understand where you are skiing and where the chairlift goes. There is also no information which slope is working and which is closed. The chairlifts were ok and almost no queues. A lot of rentals, ski schools available for affordable prices. Food and drinks- don’t expect to have a cup of warming hot wine after the ride. It is conservative part of turkey, so no alcohol drinks available. Restaurants and cafes mostly offer local food which is not bad but not perfect for vegetarians or the ones who take care of the calories- food is mostly fat and unhealthy. Cannot comment on hotels nearby, we were staying in radisson in Kayseri city center.

The volcano Erciyes looms over the town of Kayseri from its 3916 metres. The mountain was known in the antiquity under the name Argaeus or, in a more modern transcription, Argeus. In winter it is fully covered with snow, and many Tripadvisor people reported their experience of skiing on its slopes. Visitors of Kayseri should anyway be aware that it is possible to make a short and comfortable excursion to this beautiful mountain, by using the minibuses connecting Kayseri to Develi, a town which lies on the opposite side of Mt. Erciyes. The minibuses run very frequently, and the road passes through the high plateau near the peak.

The road first climbs from Kayseri to the barren plateau which surrounds the volcano, with tremendous aerial views of the city; after about 20 kilometres it reaches the Erciyes ski station, located on the east side of the mountain; the station is at the foot of the volcano, at an elevation of about 2200 metres. After passing the station the road goes down the opposite face of the mountain, with impressive views to the south side of the peak. I made this trip at the end of May, and many strips of snow still extended all the way down to the road: the sights were really beautiful.

The road is a very modern and safe highway; the total distance run by the minibuses is about 40 kilometres, and the trip takes about 50 minutes. The visitor from Kayseri may decide to make a simple round trip Kayseri-Develi-Kayseri (and this will take about a couple of hours in total). Otherwise, he can choose to stop at the ski resort, where he can walk, trek, lunch or take the gondola cableway which will bring him right under the walls of Mt. Erciyes.

The minibuses to Develi leave frequently from Seyyid Burhaneddin Bulvari, next to the mausoleum of this famous Sufi master, about 1 kilometre south of Cumhuriyet Square. In general they leave as soon as they are full, normally at least once per hour. The cost of the one way trip is 6 Liras (about 1.5 €). The minibuses are easily recognized from the sign "Develi" painted in large bold letters on their front.

One of the best trip ever! It was a great experience. For a beginner like me, one should be physically ready to Skii. But there are options also to ride a snow mobile and cable cars. Best in winter!

40tl for Skii and 7TL for cable cars are not bad. Snow mobile car is a bit pricey (50tl) but worth the experience of speed in snow!

Can smb advise if it is already open? Planning to go to Erciyes at the end of December. Apparently, web cams show empty slopes and unprepared little snow.

Was a very nice and different experience skiing in a volcano in Turkey.
It’s incredible cheap (70LT a day pass and 50TL rental of all equipment). The cable cars are excellent. They only need to improve the restaurants and the signpostings on the slopes.
Turkey needs to improve their skiing stations to receive more tourists. Seems local people don’t care about skii and at least this station was very empty. Was the first april week and there was a lot of snow (they close on the second week). In the beginning of the afternoon the visibility was not good but even so was very nice.
