    Wonderful romantic vacation
In July 2023, my partner and I had an incredible adventure to Gorema National Park. We were excited to explore this unique place in Turkey. For our stay, we chose Harkasos Cave Hotel, a cozy and charming place nestled in the rocks. During our visit to Gorema National Park, we discovered fascinating caves and rock formations. The landscape was like something out of a fairy tale, with hot air balloons painting the sky. Harkasos Cave Hotel, where we stayed, was like a magical cave hideaway. The rooms were comfortable, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Each day was filled with new adventures. We explored ancient sites and enjoyed delicious local cuisine. In the evenings, we relaxed at the hotel, gazing at the stars above the unique cave surroundings. Our trip was extra special, with warm weather and breathtaking views. We left Gorema National Park feeling grateful for the beautiful experiences and the cozy retreat of Harkasos Cave Hotel. It was a romantic and unforgettable journey that we'll cherish forever!

    Beautiful landscape with honeycomb landscape..
We visited this UNESCO site part of our gate 1 tour, a magnificent valley with rock carved churches and monasteries. It was built in the Byzantine period . It was also a settlement to the monks. The landscape is beautiful but I would suggest you take a guided tour so you receive all the detailed explanations. There is also a Dark Church you can visit but you have to pay extra, which we did not.

Unique experience : early Christianity cave churches and impressive fairy chimneys.
Göreme was an epicenter of early Christianity, it also featuring painted cave churches. The rupestrian churches date from the 10-11th. century and include Tokalı Kilise and El Nazar Kilise , St. Barbara , Saklı Kilise , Karanlık Kilise . .. . The otherworldly fairy chimneys are impressive. The park is a unique spot, not to be missed. Prepare for at least 2 hours of walk with a lot of matchless sights (it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985). I found also the "Dark Church" remarkable because of the way in which it preserved the beauty of the celebrated frescoes. Nevertheless, if you are not curios/passionate about the subject, it is better not to pay the additional ticket. Prom a practical perspective, the landmark is easily to be found and has a parking There were several very commercial stores while I expected to find something authentic craft objects. A little crowded in the morning with longer waiting lines for the ticket purchase. If you feel the need for a guide, you can find an authorized one inside. We did not go with this opting (as we have done some reading prior to the visit) but there were several groups which seemed pleased with the service. There is a cafe and a museum shop inside so you can have a coffee and a drink.

The place itself is of course amazing, a firm 5. This is just to warn fellow travelers that the 480 TL tickets sold at the entrance do not give access to the whole museum. They singled out the Dark Church (presumably the top attraction) and to enter it you have to pay an extra 130 liras, which feels a bit tricky and unfair (they should at least warn about that when selling the tickets). Many places were also closed for entry for various reasons.

Very good views of the valleys if you stand on top of edges all around the goreme basin. Great for outdoor lovers, see the caves where olden day people have dug into it to make living spaces and pigeon holes for harvesting pigeon droppings for fertilizer. Make your way to the Goreme open air museum where you can see remnants of early christian settlements. Hot air balloon experience and underground ancient cities. 10/10 would recommend a visit to Goreme and the surrounding cappadosia region.

At the end of August 2024, my husband and I went to this amazing place.
Our resort in Sid was the closest to the town of Göreme and we immediately decided to visit Cappadocia. 2-day guided tour with meals and overnight stay in a posh hotel.
We left the hotel at 4.00 a.m. in a large, comfortable bus with a tour guide and two replacement drivers.
Travel time was seven hours, back a little more. Lots of technical stops, delicious food.
Balloon flight or watch this show - separate price tag (flight must be booked a day-two in advance to guarantee seats in the basket)
At the end of August at the resort by the sea t +30, and in Görem t +12, wear warm clothes (for the flight also a warm jacket is desirable, since the start of the show at 4.00 am)
We were running in the rain the day we arrived in Cappadocia.
The underground city is only interesting with a tour guide.
Here are the valleys where we wandered for a long time, impressed me, the most natural wonder I have ever seen.
Returning to the sea I admired the beauty of the mountain scenery, the pine forests, the valleys, only the ubiquitous garbage along the roads and fences ruined everything.

It seems many people are visiting Goreme Open Air museum and reviewing that as Goreme National Park. The National Park, a UNESCO site, but a bit of a catch all really, it is not a specific area. It covers the Rock Sites of Cappadocia as a region including the towns of Nevşehir, Ürgüp and Avanos, the sites of Karain, Karlık, Yeşilöz, Soğanlı and the subterranean cities of Kaymaklı and Derinkuyu. Therefore it would be difficult to pin down a photograph representing a single part ond say this is the National Park. The whole area is fabulous, whether self driving with good pre knowledge of the best roads and valleys or booking the famous Red or Green tours, or both, you will see fantastic Cappadocia.

We spent two nights in a cave hotel in Göreme and went to almost every tourist spot in the national park.

What impressed me was seeing the locals in Göreme, shopping, eating and staying at the cave hotel, and the observation deck at Sunset Point behind it.

Tsuboyaki kebabs and regional dishes were also delicious.
The vases and carpets I bought in Avanos are also nice to decorate at home.
Everything was easy to buy in Göreme.

On the first day we went to Göreme Panorama, Kaymakır Underground City, Lake Nar, Selime Monastery, Uhurara Valley, and on the second day we went to Göreme Open Air Museum (Church of Darkness), Love Valley (White Valley), Pasha Bar, DeBrent Valley (Lakda Rock), Avanos, Rock of the Three Sisters (Parent and Child Rock), Ortahisar, Pejon Valley and Uchihisar.

The dark churches, pasha bars and Selime Monastery impressed me.
I was attracted not only to the strangely shaped landscape but also to the ancient history.
I felt the same way around Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

When I think of cave dwellings, I think of Matera in southern Italy.
I thought that Hortahisar and Uchihisar were similar to Matera and rural villages in Andalusia.
However, I feel that the Matera is larger in scale and more powerful.

The people in the shop were also good.
Now that I think about it, I have a bit of remorse for buying quite a few luxury items at my own one-sided price without listening to the people in the shop.
I didn't know the market price because I didn't have any information because I went personally.

My regret was that I couldn't go ballooning for two consecutive days.
In particular, the second day was cancelled just before boarding.
I also wanted to see the ballooning town of Göreme.
Later I heard that there are more days when balloons don't fly.

Because of that, I bought a lot of balloon goods like the one in the picture and left.

Stunning Creations by wind and water erosion. The caves and fairy chimneys in Goreme National park are unique creation and are forever etched in one's memory. The history of this region takes one back into ancient times. Must visit for someone who loves history and nature.

This Park is the greatest exponent of the extraordinary rocky landscapes of Cappadocia. If you are staying in Goreme, this Park is located next to one of the exits of the city. It is so different from any other place you have known that it will surprise you at every step, enclave, caves, churches,... They correspond to the 3rd and 4th centuries and are unparalleled in the rest of the world. Enjoy it as you walk through it, look for impossible angles for unique photos that you will retain in your memory forever.

The unique Gereme National Park is an open-air museum. Here are cave churches and underground multilevel cities, as well as beautiful valleys.
The balloons that delight the eye in the early morning are particularly beautiful.

There's not much to say actually. After all, it is a world heritage spot, I stop by every time I go to Cappadocia ❤️ My only advice is to get a museum card, coffee-tea etc. are 50% off in museum cafes. After passing the dark church, they opened a small museum cafe at a point. They turned the cave where the ancient people lived into a wonderful place. It was a unique experience to pause there for a while and drink coffee. Oh, and don't forget to ignore them because they charge extra fees from the dark church. After Akdamar Island, this is the only church in Turkey that fascinated me so much. Don't worry, they give discounts there too for those who have a museum card ❤️
