This place has great symbolic significance for the Turks. Bursa is the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, and Osman is its first ruler. According to legend, Osman bequeathed his son Orhan, who was lying next to him, "to be buried under the silver dome" in Bursa, which then belonged to Byzantium. Orhan fulfilled his will - after a long siege, Bursa, founded according to legend by Hannibal, was taken and became the capital of the Ottoman Empire. However, what we see now is not the silver dome. The terrible fire of 1801 reduced two-thirds of Bursa to ash, and the earthquake of 1855 destroyed the remaining and restored one. The current tomb is a new structure rebuilt in Ottoman baroque style by Sultan Abdül Aziz in 1863. It is not difficult to find out where someone is buried. Osman's tomb is more richly decorated.

My husband and I love reading about Turkish history especially during the stories of the Ottomans and Seljuks. Osman was such an inspirational figure so we had to go read Syrah fatiha where he was buried. The city of Bursa is beautiful as well ❤️

As an Ottoman history buff, I did not ever dream of visiting the tomb of the dynasty founder and his son Orhan but there I was.
Osman's tomb now has a couple of guards of honour. Girls were oohing and aahing whilst taking pictures with the handsome guards.
Orhan's tomb was deserted and I would say he deserved more credit for his efforts in expanding the nascent Ottoman empire.

What a beautiful city bursa. In our first day we are visited osman and orhan tombs. Basically tombs located at tophane parki. Park is lush green and beautiful. Bursa clock tower are also located in this area. See all bursa city view from the balcony of the park. What a beautiful scenery. Must visit this place.

We planned a trip to Bursa to visit both tombs. It was very interesting to see how they still respect Sultan Osman and allow visitors to visit the mausoleum. The Sultan who united the turkish tribes and gave rise to the Ottoman empire rests quietly on top of a hill in Bursa.

Osman Gazi & Orhan Gazi, founder of Ottoman empire and his son, two important Ottoman sultan whom they made a great effort both to establish and to enlarge the Ottoman state. Osman gazi, the firts sultan and founder of Ottoman empire, was born in Sogut, Bilecik in 1258 as the son of Ertugrul gazi from Kayı tribe, had a big struggle against Byzantine forces to establish a state and he declared his sultanate as a free state in 1300 AD and he gave his name to the state known as Osmanlı devleti-Ottoman state. Just before he passed away during the siege of Bursa, he made a will to be buried as soon as Bursa was conquered. Orhan bey, his son and second sultan of Ottoman state, promised to his father to capture Bursa . Orhan bey conguared Bursa in 1326 AD and he built a monumental tomb for his father as he promised. Orhan gazi enlarged Ottoman empire from Bursa to Balcan countries. Both Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi shrines aare located in Tophane district. Osman gazi shrine is located on the left side of the Tophanı park and Orhan Gazi shrine is located on the right side of the park, just opposite of the first one.Osman gazi shrine was destroyed in the eathqauke in 1855 and it was rebuilt by Sultan Abdulaziz in 1863 again. The wooden sarcophagus in the middle with mother pearl belongs to the founder of the Ottoman empire. Orhan gazi shrine was also destroyed in at the same time by the earthqauke and it was rebuilt by Abdulaziz in 1863 again. The sarcopgagus in the middle belongs to Orhan gazi and the total numbers of them are 14 belonging to the different Ottoman princes & princesses buried later times. Both of the shrines are recommended those who are wondering the founders of Ottoman empire.

These two tombs are located at the top of Tophane hill, nearby Bursa Castle. These tombs are 600 years old. Osman bey (or Othman the war lord ) is the founder of small state. His son Orhan bey was the conqueror of Bursa from Bizantium Empire (east Roman Empire) and became a kingdom. Orhan gave his fathers name to the kingdom Ottoman Kingdom. It is fantastic to remember this history. Unfortunately there are not so much information on the tombs. There are cafeterias nearby.

Tombs of Osman Gazi and his son Orhan Gazi are powerful, but not in terms of architecture or sytle but rather in meaning: these 2 warriors are the founders of a state which turned in almost 200 years into an empire that dominated the world and the place they have chosen for their own tombs is in itself an indicator that this development had nothing to do with chance or coincidence, it was the realization of a vision they had in mind since the beginning: the place where the tombs are situated right now hosted one of the most important churches of the Byzantine Empire, the gigantic ruler of the time. They were both confident they were to conquer the land and end the Byzantine rule, which eventually came through. Today, covered by centuries old trees, the place is always full of visitors. As the tombs have been renovated in 19th century, they have lost their simple impressiveness of the time but still worth a visit.

Osman is a very important figure in the Otoman history and he is very regarded and respected being the first sultan that united all the tribes into one nation. I visited his tomb early in the day, it gets very crowded mid-day with tours and school students. It is not a big building and it is guarded by 2 "alps" the old soldiers. see picture. I was also lucky to watch the changing of the guards, I think happens every two hours, it was 10:00 sharp when that happened. Fully recommended for the history enthusiasts. Take the long ramp up for a great view, dont take the busy street!

Tomb of the Osman Ghazi, the founder of Ottoman’s Empire. And his son Orhan Ghazi the second sultan of Ottoman’s. Originally tombs are built on a Byzantium church.
