- Katie OWagga Wagga, Australia209 contributionsWorth a visitAs the other reviews state, a solid museum worth a visit. The front rooms contained little items and pottery thought out the ages, and I have seen similar in other places. However, I’ve never seen (outside of the Egypt museum) so many sarcophagus in one place before…but even Egypt did not have one for a dog!Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 31 October 2023
- Wood77Los Angeles, California3,455 contributionsPacked Exhibition HallsChildren friendly area near the entrance. Impressive presentation of many recovered artifacts. Each one has a sign about their history. The sarcophagus of Hercules was magnificent. A majestic display of coinage was located on the upper level. We were told they don’t have room to display the large number of artifacts in storage.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 December 2023
- Marvin GOgdensburg, New York1,674 contributionsThis museum is a "must see."The Antalya Museum is one of the most important museums in Turkey and covers periods from prehistory to the 19th century. It includes 13 exhibition halls and an open air gallery containing over 5000 works that illustrate the history and culture of Anatolia. The Museum won the "European Council Special Prize" in 1988. This museum's collection is so fantastic that it is a "must see."Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 21 December 2023

It has Greek and Roman statues. Impressive artifacts, à children section and a modern art exhibition is found . Unfortunately, we did not have enough time to see it all.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 April 2024
- Susan CMelbourne, Australia1,539 contributionsStunning statuesThis museum’s collection of statues from the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD is stunning. Many are in excellent condition, some even having noses! I particularly liked the statues in motion or unusual poses though these were often more damaged than statues in more typical poses. While mostly marble there are also some bronze statues. Many statues come from nearby Perge and a visit there allows you to imagine these statues in their original locations. At the start is some prehistoric displays followed by some excellent ceramics and glasswork artifacts. There is also, after the statues, an extensive display of Greek and Roman sarcophagi with lots of decoration including the labours of Hercules on the side of some and full statues on top. Upstairs is a coin collection. There is also an outdoor exhibition section but exiting to it is through one way doors so if you exit by mistake you either need to find another entrance or wait for someone to exit so you can retrace your steps.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 April 2024
- michael cooperPlymouth, United Kingdom253 contributionsA must if you have visited PergeIf you have visited Perge this museum is a must as it contains all the statues, sarcophaguses and muses from the ancient city. The museum is well laid out moving chronologically from prehistoric to the Ottoman Empire. Most of the features are from the Bronze Age, pre-Roman and Roman and Byzantine. There is a lot to see but can be all seen and read in 1 to 2 hours. Tram station right outside the museum.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 14 June 2024

Antalya has two major attractions: beaches and history. After our visits to historical sites like Perge, Side, Aspendos, Myra etc, it was logical to visit the Antalya museum. The museum is full of archeological treasures excavated from the above mentioned sites. With its halls of emperors and gods and goddesses, the museum offers, especially for young children, a great opportunity of actually seeing the Ancient Greek history in front of them. Highly recommended.
On piece of advice: if you are visiting Turkey and planning to visit museums then buy the TL 500 worth of the museum card. It gives you access to all the museums.

I have nothing negative to say about the museum itself. It is beautiful and packed with interesting items from different time periods. My warning, however, is about how the reception dealt with us. We purchased two tickets at the entrance + audio. Then when we crossed the gate into the museum, we were told that actually they have no audio devices and that we need to download the museum app. We asked for the wifi password, they said because we are not Turkish nationals, they won't give it to us. Mind you that without the audio, not all display windows have English or any signs at all. We asked how we could get around it, and we reached a dead end with the staff telling us AFTER WE PAID FOR AUDIO that we cannot access the app. My husband is a historian and learning about the items is very important to us. It is not a casual visit for us and we came from the UK to see the exhibits. Therefore, just a stroll in the museum won't cut it for us. When the lady was trying to tinker with my phone with the wifi, she turned the roaming on and downloaded the app for the museum to prove that the provided the audio service. I only noticed at the end that my roaming was on.
Anyway, she downloaded the app and when she opened it and scanned out tickets (a one-time thing only), it still did not work. So even if you download the app before hand, you still need internet to scan your ticket and download the audio tracks, and without wifi you won't be able to do it, so the whole thing is designed to fleece you.
We just won't go away and we bothered them for about 50 minutes. Eventually it turned out that they DID have the audio devices and magically gave us one with no issues whatsoever (my husband's driving license was taken as a deposit). That first bit kinda ruined the experience for us because to fleece you for a service that does not work is in the design of your visitor experience.
Try to download the app before hand. You won't be able to access the audio tracks without a ticket to scan. Maybe if the tickets are available online and not from a kiosk do that at your hotel or before you travel. Today I received my mobile bill which is usually £11 and for that 3 minutes app download it was £65, 6 times my bill and the price of the museum entrance fee. Therefore, that visit in fact cost me a bit to £100.

Small museum easily accessible by tram or bus. The museum is home to many incredible statues from as far back as the 2nd Century. there is an outdoor area with more statues too. The sarcophagi on display are really interesting. There were a few signs in English- not many,
Entry was 200lira and if you want an audio guide thats another 75lira.'
We spent 1- 1.5 hrs there as it's not overly big.
There is a little cafe and gift shop too.

An amazing number of statues from Perge make this worth seeing, and the huge number of sarcophagi. It was interesting to go to Perge later in the week to see where they'd all come from.
Lots of very interesting chickens and peacocks in the garden were a nice surprise!

Antalya is not rich in museums, this one is worth visiting. An extensive collection from the ancient city of Perge. The skill of the creators is amazing. But, visiting is expensive for a very small museum - entrance 15 euros, with children measured by height on the eye, our 12 years went like an adult. There is an audio guide in Russian - 350 Turkish rubles.

The Archaeological Museum of Antalya is one of the most important museums in Turkey and covers periods from prehistory to the 19th century. It is particularly renowned for its exceptional collection of ancient sculptures, many of which come from the archaeological site of Pergé. Do not miss this visit !!!
Especially since the museum, of reasonable size, can be discovered in just 1 to 2 hours!

Poor experience at Antalya Museum. I paid for the ticket via credit card and received my usual confirmation that the transaction had gone through (I’ve signed up to receive these from my bank). The ticket agent insisted it had not been processed and wanted me to pay again even though I showed him my message etc. I know this is not his fault personally but for the museum this is pretty bad - to try to process two charges for a ticket! Left pretty disappointed in the whole incident.

If you are planning to spend the day on Konyaaltı beach factor in Antalya musuem into your trip. The museum is just across the road opposite the old fashioned and new tram stops.
The building is unassuming from the outside, and initially we were a little bit underwhelmed by the artefacts on display. Don’t be fooled or put off, it’s deceptive. The musuem gets better and better as you go through. In fact it’s probably one of the best medium sized museums we’ve ever visited! The ancient classical Greek and Roman statues of the Gods and Goddesses are magnificent, huge and tower over you. The displays give you a real sense of their grandeur and splendour. The staff were friendly and there are lockers near the entrance were you can leave your bags. We left pretty impressed by what we saw. It was definitely worth a visit.

This is a fine museum but almost exclusively features Roman artefacts from the region. If you are looking for neolithic or Byzantine, there are only a few small displays. There are really only 7 halls, not 13 as advertised--it's not a very big place. If you are in Antalya already, it might be worth a visit, but I regret going out of my way to go.

SCAM !!
I recently visited the Antalya Museum and was thoroughly disappointed by my experience. As a foreigner, I felt like I was caught in a scam. First of all, they display the ticket price in € so you get confused when you pay in Lira.
When purchasing tickets, I was automatically charged for an audio guide that I didn't want, which added about 18 euros for two people to my bill. The staff didn't clarify this upfront, and it felt deceptive.
If you're planning to visit, be very cautious and explicitly request a ticket without the audio guide to avoid this unwelcome surprise. It’s frustrating to see such practices in a cultural institution. Save yourself the hassle and verify your ticket details before paying !
