Actually the correct name of the temple is " Wat Phra Tat Doi Kong Moo". One of tge most revere temple for Mae Hong Son resident. The temple was built in mixed Shan Thai style in 1860, the first pagoda by Shan Merchantwho was also high ranking officials, and the second smaller one by the governorof Mae Hongson province some 14 years later. The name of the temple,"Kong Moo", means "Pagoda". Its 1,300 metres elevation makep bird eye view point where you cansee the whole Mae Hongson Town Plus The Airport and runway. the scenery is beautiful especially at Sunrise and sunset. and with only 3 kilometres from the center of the town with 1.5 km road widing up to the top, u can walk up to the top on the road, or by the 300 steps stair at the foot of the mountain. There is a shop in the area where u can get a cup of coffee and refreshment and sitting on the patio to enjoy the view. The temple would be quiet crowded during the New Year festival as well as Song Kran festival and important Buddhist religious ceremony day. So if you like to experience the culture or if you wish to avoid the crowd see the calendar for each event.

One must reach there before the sunset. However, I realized it little late, so I had to climb it faster. Not an easy task.
But upon reaching the top, the view was simply amazing.

I have no words to describe it.

Better to go there at very early morning, before of sun :) by walk or take a taxi or tour.
Depends on season there could be a cold, so take warm clothes.

You can meditate there or just look at Mae Hong Son like a bird :)

The view from the top is great, but you don't have to climb all the steps to enjoy it! You can drive all the way up to the temple. There is a higher viewing platform that you can't drive to, but there aren't many steps up to this one, but also the view from the temple level is still amazing, especially at sunset (presumably at sunrise too)

A good energetic walk, especially if you've been slobbing about elsewhere! Wonderful views of Mae Hon Son town and surrounding magnificent mountains, looking towards nearby Burma.
The temple complex is interesting, if not outstanding, though you can float a small boat with a candle in it to absolve you of your sins and make plenty of merit. Bargain at 99 baht!
There's also an excellent coffee shop called Before Sunset, towards the back of the site.
You sometimes see some wildlife too!

You should see this if staying in Pai. The 300 plus steps take you to an amazing white Buddha. It was so peaceful at the top with some pretty amazing views below.

A 20 minutes walk up from Mae Hong Son is Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu (which has its own Tripadvisor entry). From the temple you have a very good view over the city. On the other side you can wantch the sunset over the mountains. Certainly worth the walk.
