Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Other than the areas for the tourist crowds desperate to see the eponymous bridge, the River is a beautiful place with a chilled out backpacker atmosphere. I stayed in a hotel right on the river just to be able to wake up and retire at night by the river.

If you stayed in the less developed and touristy areas, the river is a much more enjoyable place

It is a fairly small river but with a strong current. There is a ton of birds and wildlife around as well. It goes for miles and miles. Find a cute cafe and eat beside it!

An alternative to an organised tour is simply to hire a car which can take 3 people for about 4,000 TB. This means you can leave when you want and not bother collecting people from hotels in Bangkok. The direct drive is just over two hours and if you do the cemetery, death museum and a walk on the bridge that is another two hours - so the whole trip can be done in 6-7 hours instead of 10 or more by tour groups.

The River Kwai is beautiful and the surroundings offer lots of adventure (waterfalls, caves, and forests). Combined with the history of the area, especially during WWII, the area has something for everyone!

Amazing to see this historic bridge having been bombed during World War 2. now in it's renovated state. Walk the track to the site of the POW camp across the river

Full of history and is a nice experience to walk the bridge. Did a day trip to Kanchanaburi from Bangkok. Took the train to arrive at River Kwai, thumbs up. If we have more time, will be good to stay over for a few nights to explore this province

There are so many ways to appreciate this river. Take a walk along the bridge, enjoy a train ride and have a bite to eat or stay in one of the hotels that line the bridge. Loved it. Peaceful once you get away from the crowds.

I have seen some crappy sites in my days travelling the world. The area around the Bridge on the River Kwai is a disgrace. So much junk and garbage littered about. Nobody seems to care how bad it looks. I was such a disappointment. I would not dare eat anything in the area. They really need to clean it up and fix all of the broken footpaths, walls and general appearance.
