Description:

Hutsadin Elephant Foundation offers the visitor a variety of attractions....

Hutsadin Elephant Foundation offers the visitor a variety of attractions. At present we have 4 elephants available for trekking or for our latest option of bareback riding. Each trek or ride will take you through the surrounding areas. After your trek you will be able to watch a small show by our youngest elephant, or if you would prefer you are welcome to wash her instead and there will be plenty of opportunities for some amazing photos. After this you may want to visit our retired elephants.

If you prefer a more hands approach, you may want to try our 'mahout experience' where you will get a talk about the foundation and its ethos plus the individual stories of all our elephants and why they were rescued, you will also help to take care of our retired elephants for the morning(9.00a.m - 12.00), in this time you will get to prepare food, give medication, clean their shelters, take one for a walk and then give her a wash. Will receive a t shirt to remember your time with us and you are welcome to have a free vegetarian lunch and ice cream to finish your morning. (please e mail for details as only available on certain days and only small groups are taken). If you can't spare three hours but still want something 'hands on' you can take one of elephants for a walk and then wash then on return - approximately 1/2 hour. If you just want to have a look around the foundation and chat to some of the English speaking volunteers you are more than welcome and there is no charge, however they are only there on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday morning. All of our elephants have been rescued and all have their own story, there is an information board near the seating area where you can learn more about each individual elephant.A final word to clarify the situation :- you may be asked for a tip or to buy trinkets from the mahouts - this is entirely up to you and is not supported by the foundation. Any money that you give to the mahouts DOES NOT go into the foundation funds and is not used to buy food etc (no matter what you may be told). Should you wish to make a donation please put it into the box in the front office or give to one of the volunteers. As a warning, some taxi/tuk tuk drivers will try to take you to other elephant attractions - to ensure that you come to Hutsadin phone the number at the top of the page we can provide a taxi that will bring you here. If you are making your own way, our staff all wear white clothing, volunteers wear Hutsadin t shirts. We are located at the very top of the hill (coming from town) on the right hand side, go past the signs and turning for Elephant Village We hope that you enjoy your visit and find it a memorable experience. Please post your comments on tripadvisor for the benefit of others.

I don't get hunting, it's barbaric and these idiots who think it's cool to shoot for fun should themselves be given the same treatment. I'm not a fan of zoos either per se. This foundation takes in elephants who have been found in the wild or abused by fools out to make a quick bhat by making them into circus... More

Thanks for noticing the work that we all put into the care of our elephants. We will continue to work towards more 'hands on' experiences and will hopefully stop trekking next year:) More

This place has opened my soft spot for elephants. Jo was sooo comforting and gave us a great look into the foundation and what fabulous work they do to save & nuture abused elephants. All the proceeds from "experiences" go to feeding and buying medication for the elephants. The interaction with the elephants was incredible - highly recommend. English speaking... More

Wear that t shirt with pride - only those that take part in the mahout experience are entitled to wear them! It was a real pleasure to meet you and your family and i'm pretty sure you will all be back one day :) More

Unsure about riding the elephants, we done some research and felt happy that Hutsadin had a good review for a reason. Their elephants are very well looked after and the padding under the seats is ample protection against rubbing. My children absolutely loved their visit here - bathing the baby elephant was an experience we will all never forget. My... More

Rang Jo and booked a mahout experience after reading this was the best thing to do so the elephants can benefit from extra fruit paid by the money given for the experience. Anyone who is interested please support this wonderful place. After listening to what the elephants in the foundation have been through, it brought a 😢 to my eyes.... More

Glad that you enjoyed the mahout experience - this is becoming so popular that booking as far in advance as possible is recommended, we already have bookings for 2017. Milo is settling very well although some of the other dogs aren't quite so impressed with him, we're sure he'll fit in nicely eventually :) More

We recently visited the elephant foundation. My son and daughter rode beat back on the elephants and my husband and I walked, fed and washed the elephants. It was really well organised and we were met by an English speaking volunteer. They are there Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We were shown all the elephants along with an explanation as to... More

Great experience! The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly people as to be expected from Thailand! Have a choice between walking with an elephant and riding an elephant. We opted to walk with a little female elephant, who was to die for! The walk lasted about 20-30 minutes but the time flew by, feeding the elephant and listening to our... More

Great place for an elephant ride and wash. Staff are friendly. Would recommend morning session (9-10 am) where weather is more friendly for trekking.

The elephant foundation is only a 20 minute ride by taxi from town. The cost of the ride is B150 each way. My wife and I were accompanied by a daughter and a teen-age granddaughter. The younger ones opted to feed, walk and bathe the elephants. We seniors were allowed to watch. The center currently has eight elephants, each with... More

Thank you for your review, we are pleased that your family enjoyed the walk and showering of the elephants. You are correct in saying that the volunteers do care unconditionally for the elephants but we are working with the staff to change things towards a more "hands on" establishment and move away from trekking. It has to be recognized though... More

I travelled to thailand with my partner and my young son just to ride an elephant as it was on my bucket list of things to do before I was 30. I obviously read up on trip advisor before we went and decided that the elephant foundation was the one with the best reviews of all that offer this excursion... More

We are so sorry that you left us feeling that the elephant had been abused. We take this very seriously but unfortunately we have no idea of the elephant you were on or the mahout. If you had complained to the manager at the time some action would have been taken but without the name of either the elephant or... More

We visited the elephant foundation today for the Mahout experience and it was absolutely amazing. We started off by learning all about the elephants, their past's and their individual personalities. We then went on to take one of the elephants for a walk, wash her down and gave the other elephants some fresh fruit as well as their medication.I would... More
