We took two cultural tours in Arusha. One was a hike in a local village. It's an excellent way to experience the local culture. The children were excited to see tourists and loved to accept gifts. We also went to a Massai village. We were greeted with a traditional song and dance and we're encouraged to take pictures. We also... More

We booked a organic coffee plantation and village tour through our lodge and it was a very off the tourist beat tour. Saw the organic co op farms and then saw the area they roasted and ground the coffee with a coffee tasting, loved the experience

The guide was excellent, the man that runs the tour is great, and I really enjoyed the school (I had a long discussion with the principal, as he was in the Tanzanian Army and I was in the US Army. I offered to provide a geography lesson to the... More

We had a wonderful experience talking to the Masai people and seeing how they live. Other than the animals, this was a highlight of our stay in Tanzania.

Visiting with the Bushmen was extremely interesting. I have to wonder though what percentage of the tips goes to tobacco and pot rather than shoes or other supplies for the tribe. The highlight was dancing in a baobab tree with a bushman playing on his beautiful home-made instrument.

Arusha was a beautiful city and despite it being a big tourist destination, it was bursting with culture and although we received many stares, we also returned many waves to children and other friendly locals. On our many excursions we drove past plantations and all the rusty shacks. There were typical maasai men herding their cattle and wearing their traditional... More

It was really great to go to the village and be able to shop from local artisans. When I travel I enjoy supporting the local communities.
