The Arusha Declaration Museum is a nice little place to visit to understand the independent history of Tanzania. A good amount of photos and explanations are provided. There is also a small photo exhibition from Dick Persson on Maasai culture. The museum building is quite unique. The beautiful gardens surrounding the museum have a nice variety of trees to see. Non-resident entrance fee 12,000 TZS (October 2020). There were signs up saying card payment only, which was not actually the case - cash payment only was the reality. Worth a visit!

This small but significant museum is informative in its simplicity, highlighting the proud quest for independence in Tanzania with a historical overview from past to present. It shed light on the aspirations of the founding fathers of the nation. It is next to the monument erected in the honour of the declaration.

I probably knew more about Tanzanian history than most Americans, which wasn't much; certainly I had never heard of the Arusha Declaration. I learned a lot at the museum, which has an extensive collection of photos and documents. Definitely worth a couple hours and the very modest entrance fee.
