Walk the canal

We stumbled on this one whilst admiring the water front. A cute little canal allowing a quiet walk in a busy area.

We started our 2 hour tour by small boat, the driver was very knowledgeable and English speaking. We went down the Dutch canal and saw local fishing housing and locals going about their daily lives. We then went out to the Negombo Lagoon where we saw monkeys, fish, birds, water ministers and dogs fishing (yes for fish) Cost AUD$20 per... More

The canal system was started by the Poruguese, improved by the Dutch and made in more or less the present style by a British Colonel who fiddled the books on the way. Recently extensively cleared of what might have been a form of Nile Lotus, fish abound, and the wild life at dawn MUST BE SEEN BY EVERYONE>

Basically it was a commercial waterway, with great historical value. Now it is nothing more than a dirty canal. If more respect would be given, it would be the one of most romantic places in Negombo.

Light relief from the heat of the day being out on the water with a breeze , away from the busy dirty streets of Negombo .

No a tourist attraction that you need to see, a drive past is good enough. Not pretty and very unclean

The authority should think about maintaining this canal in a suitable way. It could be a superb tourist attraction, Sorry to say-you guys need to grow up & focus on where it's needed. Don't take this as a complain, take this as a constructive feedback. Thanks :(
