- ymSingapore, Singapore1 contributionNot easyindeed it not easy, it divided to 3 paths in different level, the highest the toughnesses! Prepare hiking stick, that I not, eventually I hardly walk for the next day. I even did it after round island cycling!Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 8 October 2023
- Yoona HeDaegu, South Korea2 contributionsa new challengeFollowing our arrival at the Yeongsil path, we parked at the lower end of the route and then hiked up for thirty minutes to reach the beginning point. Even though we were only a few days away from the height of the foliage, it was still quite fine in several areas. After that, we descended by way of the Eeorimok route. This section is more peaceful and monotonous, yet it presents a new challenge in the volcanic stone sections.Visited November 2023Travelled on businessWritten 9 January 2024
- AmboNabilahKuala Lumpur, Malaysia8 contributionsHallasan MountainIt was the best decision I made to visit Hallasan on December. The trail is easy and the snow spotted all the trail just cuase slippery but still negotiable so please prepare your hiking shoes. It was a good weather and I met amazing people all the hike. We rented a car during our stay in Jeju. And entrence for Hallasan is Free. You just need to pay 1000krw for parking. Definately will come back !Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 17 April 2024
- GuiHelsinki, Finland78 contributionsA great if horrible hike!A great if horrible hike! :) We went up Gwaneumsa trail which is indeed challenging - esp. the last couple of kilometers that are very steep - but altogether in fact quite enjoyable! Facing a lot of rain reaching the top we then decided to go down the supposedly « easier » Seongpanak trail which right from the outset felt truly horrible! It is covered for kilometers on end with rocks (which under heavy rain end up being also rather treacherous) - only briefly interrupted with wooden planks that offer a welcome if very short lived relief. In hindsight we should have gone down the Gwaneumsa trail. But in the end absolutely great memories! Would I do it again? Certainly not under the rain!Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 28 May 2024
- Czar EmmanuelManila, Philippines10,311 contributionsA wonderful gift of Mother NatureVisiting this mountain and its park easily helps you understand why Jeju Island is included among the "New 7 Wonders of Nature". It immerses you into the beauty of Nature and gives you that much needed respite from your busy daily schedule. There are many spots you can visit on this mountain. We joined a guided tour which took us to the famous "1100 Road" and wetland. We also saw the monument depicting the legendary white deer. Your tour guide should tell you the story behind it. The wooden trail that guides you through the wetland is amazing! It was, indeed, a very relaxing visit. Highly recommended!Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 June 2024

An enjoyable hike. I made a mistake by hiking up Eoseungsaengak Trail, it’s 1.5 hour, probably the easiest and you can see the jeju city, it’s 1300m, I did hear a deer around when I hiked down but I could not see it. The view is pretty good.
I went down quickly after realising that I made a mistake and start hiking up eorimok trails. The 2.5 hour up is 3/5 in terms of difficulties. The starting is easy but there are some path that the stones are uneven, need to be careful on the steps. I then hiked down the Yeongsil trail in 1.5 hour. That is slightly easier than eorimok. Some parts that look scary due to the view of the bottom but the scenery is beautiful. You can see the 500 buddiest rock.
I hiked on 27sept, the weather is fantastic, no rain at all, it’s also not hot, however, I don’t see many flowers nor maple leaves
Since I got off the bus at eorimok entrance, I did not know where the bus stop in yeongsik trail. I took a very very long walk down. I don’t know if there’s a shorter way. The eorimok entrance is not too far from the bus stop.
Note that there’s is no 740 bus anymore . You just have to wait for 240. I stayed in jeju city

We love the hike but descending the trail (We used Gwaneumsa Trail up and down) was taught with endless rocks. There are many steps to negotiate. Only the fittest will survive in this relatively lower gradient mountain. Overall, we had a great time. Just don't forget to pack your lunch and picnic at the top together with hordes of colourful ahjummas and ahjussis

The course does get busy during mid-day. Arrive early if you wish to make it to the summit. If you travel in the afternoon, the park does not allow further hikers to access to mountain due to safety concerns. Most of the initial hike has wooden or stone steps to assist all hiker levels.

Difficult, 5 to 6 hours for 1300/1400m elevation gain
Hallasan National Park is the jewel of Jeju, and if you are a hiker, it is an absolute must. At 1,947 meters, Hallasan is the highest peak in South Korea, and the view from Baengnokdam Crater at the top is simply breathtaking. Two main trails lead you there: the Seongpanak Trail (9.6 km, about 5 hours climb, which I recommend for the climb because easier) and the Gwaneumsa Trail (8.7 km, about 5 to 6 hours climb), the latter being the most difficult with a steeper elevation gain (for the descent). Expect a good sweat, but the game is worth it.
It is better to attack early, and not to be afraid of the crowd (by the way, you have to book your Check-out slot online). The majority of the climb is in the undergrowth, without a view, and it is on the last 2 or 3 kilometers that you go beyond the rumbling of trees to have a view of the whole island. Beautiful, unavoidable, but the crowd spoils the fun of the experience "in kind". Physical and sporting feat still present

Make sure you go early enough. Koreans are extremely cautious and the trials close far earlier than necessary so we did not make it to the summit. It is quite a nice trail and I highly recommend it.

Got the 240 bus out to the start of the Eorimok trail which took us two and a half hours to climb up to Witseoreum where we switched to come down on the Yeongsil trail, which took one and three quarter hours down. Glad we did it that way around as the down would have been a harder ascent. Shame that we walked all the way through clouds ha ha

The largest volcano on Jeju is in Hallasan National Park. There are various hiking trails, but two of them have to be reserved in advance as there are capacity restrictions (a day in advance is too short). We then opted for the unrestricted Eorimok Trail - also a beautiful hike, 6.8 km one way, varied landscape.

A must-do when visiting Jeju It would most likely take the whole day for it to climb and enjoy the sights. Recommend that you bring enough water and food for pit stops along the way. Walking sticks are useful and many of the hikers are using them.

There are 5 trails, we took the shortest but most challenging one since we started after lunch. Steep but scenic view. 3 hrs going up (with several rests in between) and took us 2 hours going down. I almost gave up but it is rewarding once you reach the top and can touch the clouds! ❤

We climbed in mid-March. Halfway through the journey, snow appeared, the entire road was covered in snow, it was very slippery. Take comfortable and non-slip shoes with you (ice shoes/ice shoes). I had summer rag sneakers, and they always rolled down all the way.
The whole journey took us 7 hours.

I am wondering if i hike up Gwaneumsa trail and down by seongpanak trail, where is the best place to park
Written 22 October 2024
I'm planning to climb to hallasan through seongpanak trail and exit by gwaneumsa. However the reservation guide only states that the only way to go going down by dongneung peak. Is it a must to go down through that trail? Also, as i'm going to use seongpanak + gwaneumsa combo, do i need to reserve for both trails? Thank you in advance.

Hi... in January 2020 I want to take a short trip to Jeju Island.
I arrived at Jeju Island Airport at 8 a.m.
I want to go to Hallasan Mountain and Ichullbong Peak in one day ... could I do it by bus? ...
Can anyone help me with the bus route and how?
thank you
Written 23 December 2019
Hi..ichullbong peak is best done early morning. Its in a town called seongsan ,there are local buses that go to seongsan, but its advisable that you sleep over the night before and go for the sunrise walk up.
For MtHallassan ,there are buses from jeju city or even seongsan via swegwipo, depending on which trek u d like to take depending on ur time...its recommended that you do these two things over 2 days...treks are from 8 hrs to 4 hrs routes.

Hi i would be in jeju with my family dec 29-jan 5. And one in our list is the hallasan mountain. Can i arrange tour once we arrived? Thank you.
Written 10 December 2019
Hi Leanne. I am sure the hotel will be able to arrange that for you. Just note that public transport is not very assessable. Taxi with driver to the place and for the day costs around S$200 (Singapore dollars). For this price, we rented a car instead so that we can drive wherever we want. The roads in Jeju is an easy drive except for the speed limit and GPS is up-to-date.
