The tower itself may look small and simple but don't let it's mere form deceive you in what it actually represents. CheomSeongDae is the oldest, surviving astronomical observatory throughout all of Asia. I read an article somewhere stating that it might even be one of...More

We enjoyed a nice walk. The whole tour takes 2 hours with kids. 8km... There are many added activities like this vegetable hanging garden. Beware for the hanging pumpkins 🤣

There's not much to actually see at the Observatory. It looks like a kiln, to be honest. But it's impressive when you think about the age of the building and how people there cared about the sciences so long ago. The park it sits in...More

There is actually an interactive multilingual introduction that many people miss. The observatory is nice, but I think it is its environment which makes it beautiful. We were having coffee at a cafe that allowed us to see the observatory. What a nice view.

I'm not sure what this is and it seems that not too many people are! It looked like a chimney and I couldn't work out how it was used as an observatory and our guide couldn't either! If you come here specifically to see this,...More

Seems to be genuinely old from 600AD, with no reference to it being rebuilt. It apparently the oldest observatory in eastern asia.

Ancient structure from Shilla period. It is quite small in size, my friend said that it looks like a ketchup bottle. It is nice to take picture from the flower garden. Observe contrast between day time view and night time view because it will be...More

Last autumn, I visited Gyeongju. The city itself had different atmosphere and I felt as if I was in the centre of the past when my ancestors lived. In particular, I felt something strange without any reasons in front of the observatory. The night view...More

Small plain stone structure located in heart of town. You cannot enter however there is a digital display. It is surrounded by a number of tombs which make good photos. Thanks for the vote if you found this review helpful.

There's not a lot of information in the vicinity about the observatory, but there was a little video (in the museum, I think?) that kinda shows you how it works. I think it works kind of like a periscope which is the reason for the...More
