Overview
More
This 42-story building was dedicated in 1983 to the memory of Erastus Corning 2nd, a long-time mayor of Albany who played a special role in the creation of the Plaza as the center of state government. The Tower is the tallest building in New York State outside of New York City. The building dominates the Albany skyline with its glass, marble and angular forms. The Corning Tower Observation Deck is located on the 42nd floor. Breathtaking views of Albany, the Plaza, and surrounding areas can be enjoyed. Also visible are the Hudson River Valley, the Port of Albany, large portions of the city and its government, the foothills of the Adirondacks, the Catskills, and the Berkshires of western Massachusetts. 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (LAST CHECK-IN AT 3:45 p.m.). Hours subject to change without notice. Closed Saturday and Sunday and holidays. To gain access to the Observation Deck, all persons 16 and older must check in by presenting photo identification at the Observation Deck Check-In, Concourse Level, Corning Tower. Persons under 16 must be accompanied by an adult with photo identification.

Ride to the 42nd floor and see beautiful views of Albany in all directions. Easy parking ($5) under the plaza.

This is a nice treat because it is free and the view of the city and the Hudson River is beautiful. The observation deck was not crowded for a Friday afternoon, which is another nice treat. Try to go early because they close around 3.

Once at the top talk to the clerk and they can give you the history of the tower and the plaza below. Kind of an ironic story. But the views from up here are amazing. its Albany's own Empire State building :)

As Albany's lone skyscraper (lol), the Corning Tower provides great views of the city and surrounding areas. Only downside is it's only open Monday through Friday.

I wouldn't make a special trip just to see the Corning Tower, but if you are already at the plaza, then the view from the top is definitely worth the 15 minutes.
