We had some time to kill Sunday morning in Albany, and were very pleased to find this special nature center not far from town. The center is based on a significant and noteworthy ecological site--the Albany pine barrens. The trails are lovely and there is...More

We came across this preserve whilst driving between towns on our road trip. It was a very hot day so we didn't do any of the hikes, just inside the visitor centre and the surrounding area. It's very interesting and lots of wildlife to see....More

We stopped here to stretch our legs after a long, long car ride (four hours). The staff inside the visitor's center checked us in, and gave us a couple maps of the trails. The trails are marked so you have an idea of where you're...More

OK, not really in the city, but really close, considering all the trails. Great educational opportunities for the whole family.

This is a very nice place to walk, lots of trails and a very nice discovery center. They also have the nicest park bathrooms I have been in.

Bring your camera to photograph, in all four seasons, this beautiful nature preserve (on the far western edge of Albany). My wife is an artist and often gathers inspiration for landscapes from photos she took here.

I go on runs here. It's never too crowded, but you'll usually run into at least a couple of groups. It's pretty close to the road at some points, but its still a really nice way to feel like you're getting out of a city.
