No only is the content of this museum of interest and well curated, but the recent renovation has greatly enhanced the enjoyment of the collections. The museum also includes a full size carousel made in the early part of the 1916 as well as many...More

Worth a trip if you have extra time, centrally located adjacent to Capitol Plaza. Attractive contemporary building worth seeing too. Historic transportation exhibits, working carousel.

We spent the entire morning exploring this fabulous find in downtown Albany. The price is right - they ask for a $5 per person or $10 per family. Exhibits range from a mastodon fossil to a fire truck destroyed on 9/11. Visitors will find everything...More

Every New Yorker should put the State Museum on their to see list. Easy parking. Exhibits were detailed. You will learn about the entire state. Especially enjoyed the Adirondack section and Under the City.

The museum has so much to offer. The parking is good too. There were some exhibits that were in transition when we visited but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

This is a highly under-appreciated resource. All New Yorkers should spend time here. Easy parking access, etc.

There is no entrance fee, donation is recommended. Exhibition is well-maintained and meaningful, front-desk employees are patient and helpful. Carousel on the 4th floor is antique, plus free. Parking is free for some hours, check its website.

We did not stay in the downtown area due to cost, but we did arrive downtown early in the day and easily parked at the New York State Museum visitor parking ($10 for the day). The parking lot did fill by mid/late morning... More
