Several books say this is the easiest climb of the 4,000 footers. The key being they are comparing Cascade to the other High Peaks. For the beginner (like me), this was a tough climb. The actually ascent was not bad, but the descent was painful....More
many websites say this is an easy walk. i definitely would not consider it easy. maybe compared to the other of the 46'ers? who knows.
expect a lot of rocks, a few spots where you will be running up large, smooth rock surfaces, a couple...More
I am in my early 60's, and recently took this trail to the summits of Cascade and Porter. Bottom line for older hikers is that this trail is challenging, but pays off with big Adirondack views.

This is rated moderate in hiking difficulty. Our group is ages 5 to 66. With one* exception all made it to the summit. *The 62 year old stopped just shy. It took us about 5.5 hours to go up and back. Not too far from...More
While staying in Lake Placid my husband and I decided to do some hiking. After looking at a few trails we came a cross Cascade. One of the locals at our hotel noted it was the easiest of the other peaks. Although we haven't hiked...More
