Beautiful old Sephardic synagogue just off the main street. Donations accepted, restrooms available nearby. You can really feel the history of the building and the city here.

This synagogue is a bit off the beaten path, off the main drag, but the entire place is so pretty, it is worth the visit. It offers breathtaking architectural throughout the building.

This is a 15th century synagogue which is still functioning. It has a beautifully designed oval domed ceiling, gorgeous light fixtures and three Holy Arks. This structure was rebuilt twice, due to earthquakes. The first in 1759, when the quake almost leveled Safed....just the southern...More

A fantastic old-world Shul complete with intricate ceiling art and general decoration. Take your time around the place and really soak it in.

We felt very welcome and nobody judged us for what we wore. We were able to sit and enjoy the beautiful wall paintings.

Safed is full of beautiful synagogues, but the Abuhav really stood out with its unique interior with great architecture, colors and carvings.

It's certainly worth a visit. It's larger than others that we visited. It has a notable artistic Totah Ark (for placement and storage of the scrolls). It has a very unique and raised Torah reading platform (almost 10 rather rickety steps to get up there)....More

Lovely old Synagogue with very interesting architecture and murals. We were lucky that it was opened as some of the other Syngagoues in town were closed to the public.

I am sur that Shabat service will be held in all Safad synagogues. In fact Ha'Ari HaAshkenazi and Abuhav are not far from each other. You should find out the service hours. The service will be in Hebrew and most likely... More
