A trip to Jericho is not complete without a stop at Zacchaeus' sycamores. Even if neither tree is the very same one that Zacchaeus climbed, it is still interesting to see an ancient tree while reflecting on Jesus' meeting with Zacchaeus.
There is another tree at the Greek Orthodox Monastery of the Prophet Elisha and they also have an old dry stump in a glass enclosure. The monastery and the museum are in the same area so it is worth seeing both sycamore tree sites, if the monastery is open.

Zaccheus was a very little man, and climbed into a sycamore tree when the Saviour came past. Of course we can't be sure that this isvthe real one, but there is an opportunity to stand by it (despite the inevitable retail opoportunities on the stalls close by) , watch and reflect on the presence of Jesus in that place. It's on the main road on the way in to Jericho.

Located in a garden adjacent to the Russian Museum, this tree commemorates the Tree of Zaccheus mentioned in the Gospel of Luke (it possibly may be the same tree!). Zaccheus, a wealthy but short tax collector, climbed a sycamore fig tree to get a better view of Jesus through the crowds. Jesus saw him and asked to visit his home. At that moment, Zaccheus repented and was converted to a charitable life. We saw the tree through the bus window as we drove by, but it was enough to inspire my imagination!

It’s a historical location for a tree. The history of the tree doesn’t line up with the history of Christ.

While this was on our travel sites to visit agenda, it hadn’t registered with us. But the story and history of the site resurrected distant memories and changed what we thought was likely to be mundane to an interesting historical spot. Amazing to be so close to an important religious story. And the local food vendors had some tasty snacks. Visiting the ancient city of Jericho was pretty neat.

I recommend seeing this tree and letting your mind imagine Jesus walking in the direction of the tree to greet Zacchaeus and going home with him!

It was fenced and protected ,
Nice to have seen the tree that is so famous in the Bible. The bus just passed by and had a chance to take photos because it is located in an area where it is hard to park .

Visited Jericho with Bein Harim day tours. Nice tour. Desert fascinating. The camel at the restaurant was wonderful. He was so affectionate and I got to hug him and he kissed me. The tour was great. Not sure if this is the exact tree but like most sites in Israel no one knows for sure IF they are the exact site or place or object but you have to imagine and believe so enjoy...

This is a representative tree near the spot in the bible where Christ talked to a tax collector. Its nice to see how it could have happened and actually visit the area. The town of Jericho in which it is located is worth while too.

Worth a quick stop
