First of all - this is a real market for the real people who live here - so it is busiest in the morning when fresh produce is out, especially the fresh fish! Other times the market is less busy.

Although not primarily for tourists, many tourists come through so there is some items of interest, mostly of the cheaper variety - but there are some fine stores including one of jewellery and religious items. Tere is also one good restaurant.

BUT what is special is that this market, the old city and in fact all of the Galilee, shows the truth, how in general Arabs and Jews live together in Israel. It is not the "apartheid state" as some portray.

Walk through the passageways of the market and feel welcome and safe - enjoy Arab Israeli culture and see an Arab peple who uniquely in the Middle East have freedom and the vote.

a nice and warm Saturday made us take the kids aged 5-7 and visit the old acre market. after walking from the lower old city parking lot by the eastern wall of acre we had an amazing view of the jazar mosque with his glorious Minarette's and domes.
the street curls up onto the opening market, and as we arrive, the sweet smell of scent and rose water is tickling the mind,
freshly squeezed pomegranate and steaming SAHLABWITH A RICH CINNAMONE aroma helps us in getting towards the fishermen's area with all kinds of fresh fish on icy display and smells of the ocean...
the market curves in a narrow road with different kind of shops on both sides, from Humus and Flafel joints tothrough toys and local arts and crafts and sweets and herbs THIS MARKET HAS IT ALL!!
when we reach the end we go to the left straight to where the boat tour starts and climb a nice tour boat with our enthusiastic kids overwhelmed and happy for the opportunity of a short and beautiful joy ride,
on the way back we stop at the Shamsyia Falafel. AKA golden balls of the market.. one of the best pittas around.
on the way to the car we buy some Chalva and other sweets from the qashash bros. store to promise a sweet afternoon
the perfect Saturday trip

One of the vendors kept gawking. "Dust collectors to gold. Buy all your trinkets here." Yes to dust collectors. No to gold. Can buy some of the trinkets for less at the Sample Road Marketplace in Florida! And the fresh fish smelled like day old fish!

The Arab market at the Old City of Acre is one of the Top attraction there.

It is of course much smaller than the Old City Market in Jerusalem but the experience there is almost the same.
The stands, spices, clothes, souvenirs shops and of course something you won't find in Jerusalem: the fish stalls.

There are also the famous Hummus restaurants like Said or Shamsia (which I also reviewed here) that are definitely worth your time.

Pastries shops and Kna'affe are a must to really enjoy and experience the atmosphere of this market.

When you start at the nearby Turkish Bazaar and of course the Tourist Information Office it is the logical way to the Khans, the port and the Lighthouse ... so it is no effort at all to pass by there.

Just try to visit before noon as it becomes rather crowdy then.

I loved it, even though in some areas of the market it stank of fish, you could find incredibly unique shops, especially the ingredients shops (there are quite a few). If you're into food - it is one of the best places to be in Northern Israel. Also, Israel's top Hummus restaurant is located inside the market.

Enjoyed the sights, sounds, smells of the old market. The architecture is as if you are walking back in time to something ancient mystical market. Lovely things to buy, great food to eat. Awesome to watch those men dive off the wall and into the ocean
