We had the most amazing and surprisingly
educational time on this tour. We saw a side
of Bali / Ubud we hadnt seen before and I
have to specifically thank Guna, our cycling
lead and guide for that.
Guna took the time to explain fascinating
and intimate details about each stop we
made, including Balinese temple rituals,
burials, houses and way of life, even
enabling us to meet and talk to paddy
farmers and ancestral home owners along
the way. The highlights for us were (of course) Tegalalang as well as our stop over at an ancestral Balinese home.
As for the ride itself, the bikes and helmet
are well maintained, and the e-bike function
was a total lifesaver on many parts of the
trip. Despite having cycled before, I am not
an experienced enough cyclist and found
some parts of the route a bit too
treacherous to get through (particularly
through the narrower parts of the paddy
fields).
My recommendation would be to ensure
you have some onroad and offroad cycling
experience prior to joining this tour, or to at
least forewarn/ alert the guide if you feel you
may have difficulty navigating any part of
the trip. It was my mistake to assume I could
easily manage the paddy field and prompty
fell into a ditch! Fortunately I was not hurt and the guide saw to it that I was alright
before continuing. We ended the tour with a
tasty Balinese lunch.
All in all, well worth the money and time.
