About
Ubud Traditional Art Market is one of Bali’s best markets, selling a variety of authentic and artisanal goods by the locals. You'll be able to find unique silk scarves, handmade crockery, and woven bags—perfect as a souvenir of Bali to bring home to your loved ones. Head to the market’s east for a more traditional Indonesian experience, where you’ll find locals buying fresh produce and groceries.
If you want to learn more about the market and Balinese crafts, be sure to join a local market tour which typically includes other top Bali attractions.

- princessadventurePerth, Australia399 contributionsTouristyHundreds of stalls all selling the same mass produced goods. More Nik-naks and polyester clothing than actual art BUT the people are charming and funny. You may find something you fancy in which case know your price you want to pay before you begin.Visited December 2022Travelled soloWritten 11 December 2022
- KHilleryMeadowbrook, Australia389 contributionsIf your bored, why not. But don’t go out of your wayLet’s be honest, this is not an Art Market. This is a bunch of stalls that all sell the same thing as many other markets in Thailand and Fiji do. They sell what they think the tourists will buy. The same tourist items just with Bali painted on it. Also watch for kids pick pocketing, (which I I want to clarify that this was the only time in Bali we saw this happen) . I was deeply disappointed but I have read good reviews for pre Covid times, so maybe in a few years it will get back to that. Cars also drive down the Middle of the markets as they are a functioning street.Visited February 2023Written 5 February 2023
- MJNTRAVELVancouver Island, Canada81 contributionsBali souvenirsI always like to support local people, it is important, to make a contribution. However this is not an art market , it is stalls selling souvenirs and they are mainly selling the same items. A level or bartering is welcomed, you are paying a tourist premium on itemsVisited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 February 2023
- ADB000Melbourne, Australia332 contributionsSame old tourist offerings - nothing specialThis is a good enough place to waste a half hour or so on a walk-through. This market is now on Jalan Karna - up the street from the Jalan Raya Ubud/Monkey Forest Road corner where a large building is under construction. Lots of the same tourist offerings on show, but with nothing special or different from other things on offer in Ubud. This place is not to be confused with the other (probably bigger and better) "Art Market" in Jalan Kajeng (beside Starbucks off Jalan Raya Ubud).Visited March 2023Written 3 March 2023
- Bruno790Australia36 contributionsMarkets and treasure for all.Great market to walk around and find local treasures. The art work is nice and you can haggle with the locals. They are so talented and friendly. Find a deal and they will pack it to take home. Bought some beautiful hand drawn oil paintings and hand carved wood pieces. Made some new friends and enjoyed supporting the local who are delightful people earning an honest wage.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 March 2023
- Steven SPattaya, Thailand737 contributionsWorth a walk aroundBeing housed in a building makes it easier to navigate your way around. Vendors are all selling the same souvenirs but most of the vendors are selling clothing. Haggling for a reasonable price is a necessity. If you don't haggle you are throwing your money away. Many other vendors all selling the same stuff around the area.Visited May 2023Written 9 June 2023
- Gita P19 contributionsBali Market for touristsThis is the place to get your clothes, souvenirs, and other Balinese work of art. You can haggle the price and most of the vendors will work with you. Since this is a massive place and you'll see a lot of the same stuff, definitely roam around first and see what works best for you. One piece of advice Take Cash because no credit cards are accepted.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 10 June 2023
- Lin_SgSingapore, Singapore206 contributionsLots of knick knacks and souvenirsIf you enjoy strolling down streets lines with shops and pop-ups, lots of little lanes branching off with more little shops and hidden cafes, you’ll enjoy spending a few hours here. I did find that after the first 20 mins of ooh-ing and ahh-ing at the paintings, sarongs, batiks, bags, incense sticks and scented oils, jewellery, woven bakers bags and wooden bowls, etc., it got quite repetitive. Regardless, it was an enjoyable experience and the group of us did all manage to pick up a couple of souvenirs and gifts for friends and family back home. I’d recommend going early around 10am when most shops start to open, stay for a couple of hours, then have lunch in the area.Visited June 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 4 July 2023
- Dan LBunbury, Australia7,271 contributionsSo much of the same!Great place to visit if looking for souvenirs, statues, clothing, woven bags and baskets or a plethora of other Balinese artisan products. There are many stalls, both in the main buildings and adjacent. Merchandise is repetitive and we tended to walk more quickly after the first half hour or so. The are a number of Art Markets in Ubud and I think that I prefer the street type rather than wending my way through a grand building. Still worth visiting and handily located on the Main Street.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 August 2023
- MerryheartSingapore, Singapore903 contributionsMarket with bargain pricesMany stalls selling various varieties of decorative items, clothing, household items etc. It was very humid & stuffy inside. To get a good deal, one has to bargain & pay only when the price is what you are willing to pay. You get a better offer price if you can converse in Bahasa. The quality of the merchandise varies so it will be advisable to inspect before paying.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 12 November 2023

As usual, you must haggle with the vendors in this type of market that caters to 99% tourists, looking to buy souvenirs of their holiday vacation. The usual Balinese fare here: shirts, wood carvings, cheap jewelry, risqué items, toys, paintings, shoes, sarangi, ex cetera…spend an hour traipsing through.

This is a personal preference not to have every stall holder hassling you; i just don't feel comfortable pausing to look with continually having items sold to you; this is because you are constantly being hassled by people trying to sell you goods.

Visiting Ubud Traditional Market was an enchanting experience. The vibrant stalls bursting with local crafts, textiles, and fresh produce immersed me in Balinese culture. The friendly vendors and bustling atmosphere added to the charm. Exploring the market was a delightful journey into the heart of Ubud's rich traditions.

This is a fantastic place for shopping at a real bargain. Stores are in thousands and offering from clothes to craft and almost any thing. Indonesian batiks, clothes of all types , toys are in plenty and at an unbelievably low price. If you want to do some heavy shopping (don't want to use the word cheap as it gives a different meaning) this is the PLACE to go! You are welcome (and should) to bargain the price. An Indonesian good quality shirt as low as IRP 50 to 60,000. the same item you would pay something like IRP 150,000 near Kuta. I bought a wooden polished food serving tray (one-single piece) for IRP 150,000 and a load of clothes. I could have bargained further for the tray from the original price of IRP 250,000 but decided not. My only worry I should have bought more items to be given as gifts.

Hi ,
We are visiting Bali from India. It's a four days trip. Could anyone suggest whether visa card or master card is okie for payment like food expenses or we should carry USD or IDR too. Also could you help with cost of food per pax and best place for vegetarian food.

Most places take credit cards in Bali but a few restaurants remain cash only. The meals are inexpensive compared to the UK and there is a wide choice. Many cater for vegan and vegetarian tastes so you will be well catered for. Enjoy your trip

Of-course, it's very much possible. Book a full day tour. The cab driver will pick you at 8 AM in the morning and will drop you back by 6PM. Sometimes traffic causes a delay, so be prepared for that.
Also, make sure to have a good, filling breakfast in the morning, so that you waste no time in halting for food again and again.

You can generally pay anywhere from around 120,000 idr up. Around 140,000 is fairly standard from my experience. Sometimes the smaller bags are more expensive than the bigger ones.
Hope this helps!
