- Kristi PEstonia97 contributionsNice, but nothing specialAdmission fee is 50K, that includes sarong and other close you must wear to enter. Place is small, nice for pictures, but you get same view to many free temples, so not worth it in my opinion. Better take lunch next door in restaurant Lotus, where you can see inside the temple and get food for same 50kVisited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 20 April 2024
- rachelCardiff, United Kingdom62 contributionsBeautiful visitAlthough there isn’t a lot to do/see here, you can easily do this visit in 15mins, I really enjoyed it. It’s absolutely beautiful and a joy to visit. Entrance fee I think is reasonable and includes clothing to wear for respect. Beautiful little visit, I’d recommend.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 April 2024
- alenaschilovaYekaterinburg, Russia150 contributionsGreatRam Saraswati (Pura Taman Saraswati, Taman Saraswati Temple) is located in the center of Ubud, on the territory of the royal palace. On Google maps this is Ubud Water Palace. At the entrance to the temple you are dressed in national clothes and you walk along the fountains. You can watch the fountains and lake with lotuses from the Lotus cafe or from the Starbucks terrace.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 5 May 2024
- concubhair2017Dublin, Ireland147 contributionsOasis amid the chaosAn oasis of relative calm in Ubud - this water temple is just a few hundred meters from the somewhat underwhelming Ubud Palace. The stone carvings and lotus ponds off a respite from the craziness of Ubud Traffic, and a peaceful chance to cool down whilst enjoying the architecture and ambience. The 50,000R fee was worth it even for a short visit. The necessary coverings are provided at the entrance as part of the fee.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 May 2024
- Soraya0513Budapest, Hungary1,464 contributionsSmall temple in the heart of UbudThis lovely but place is in the centre of Ubud. Entrance fee is 50 idr. You must wear the sarong and all clothes they provide. You can walk around it. There is a restaurant located in it so you could enjoy the view longer. It can be visited in 15-20mimutes. Worth to combine the visit on the same day as the Palace since they are close to each other.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 July 2024
- Luca PGassino Torinese, Italy1,365 contributionsThe most beautiful in Ubud.Perhaps it is the most beautiful temple in Ubud. A bridge adorned with statues crosses a pool with lotus flowers. Very suggestive but, by now, too touristy. To enter they provide towels to cover legs and shoulders, and it is understandable. Less understandable to have to wear headgear (just used by dozens of other people) that have only an aesthetic function. But why?Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 August 2024
- Amit JKolkata (Calcutta), India924 contributionsBeautiful placeLocated in the heart of Ubud, the Saraswati Temple is a beautifully designed site that’s worth a visit. I highly recommend it to everyone. A must-try experience is dining at Café Lotus, which is situated within the temple grounds. You can enjoy your meal while taking in stunning views of the temple and its lotus pond. Entry is free.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 October 2024

It's not a very large area but every corner is very beautiful. I would also recommend a restaurant next to it- you can have a cocktail and enjoy an amazing view.Visited December 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 December 2024
- DIKA BALI DRIVER TOURKuta, Indonesia747 contributionsSaraswati templeIt's quite a journey from Kuta to get to Saraswati Temple. It turns out that when you arrive at the temple, the place is very nice, with a very majestic view of Candi Bentar, of course the entrance ticket is not too expensive. You can also see a Balinese dance performance here. Bangun Candi Bentar with original Balinese style design. So it's really nice to be able to visit here...Visited January 2025Travelled with friendsWritten 10 January 2025

There has now been an entry fee of 35k each, so it is no longer free. You need to dress appropriately in prayer outfits which is supplied and you have assistance fitting it - we quite liked this as it was an experience within itself. The temple is small but beautiful. It is a shame, it is surrounded by a cafe then Starbucks which takes away from the spiritual side of the temple. Also it is known for its lotus flowers but when we went, all the flowers are dead and work was being done as the pond is full of mud.

There is an entrance fee to see the Saraswati temple but there isn’t a lot to see apart from what is visible from the entrance. Therefore our suggestion is to go to the adjacent cafe and get a table right next to the water features of the temple. That way you can soak in the views but avoid the entrance fee, which will of course then be substituted by a drink / other purchase.

Gorgeous, free temple in the middle of Ubud town, quite near the Palace and Ubud Market (literally next to Starbucks). The two lotus ponds anchor the temple which has a middle walkway so quite a photogenic site. Tip - go early to avoid the crowd. We were there at 8:30-9am in the morning and when we arrived, we were the only ones there. When we left, there were quite a few people coming in. Worth a stop as the detail/carvings on the stone are quite intricate. We also heard that the site hosts shows at night.

The weather in the city centre and almost next to the Royal Palace is really impressive and has water as the main element.
Even if you are dressed properly, the guest is offered specific clothing for access.
But paying 50,000 rupees of access is too much to stay 5 minutes and take good photos.
Whoever enters the Starbucks next door can see the whole interior and take photos without paying a ticket.

Beautiful harmonious temple with two large basins filled with lotuses that are in front. But beware the inside of the temple is not visited. So to pay 100,000 rupees for two by being disguised so that you can take pictures in front of the door is really too expensive!!
I recommend having a coffee at the lotus bar just to the left of the temple and you can approach from the left very close to the temple.
Beautiful pictures also guaranteed of this bar and no disguises necessary to sit on the two dummy thrones installed for nice tourists obsessed with their selfies.

Firstly there is no access to the temple, it is permanently closed. All you get is an opportunity to walk around the garden/pool area for a few minutes, snap a few pictures and a chance to spend some time and money in the bar or Starbucks on the premises, which is also odd in my opinion for a temple. Since it is located in the very busy Ubud market area, you can take a peak in while visiting the market area or returning from a walk on Campuhan ridge and if interested take time to watch the cultural dance program offered at end of the day on certain days of the week (either here or at nearby Ubud palace).

This temple is not worth the entrance fee! Part of the area is closed due to overdue renovation work, the rest looks unkempt and is very small overall. The quality of the water is poor, and in some places it smells. The water lilies and lotus are nice to look at, in contrast to the clothes provided. These are dirty, have sweat stains and already smell unpleasant.
Overall, not recommended!
Instead of visiting this temple, it is better to find a seat in the Lotus Cafe, which is located directly in front of the temple, and enjoy the view with a cup of tea.

The temple is now closed to tourists so you can only visit the water gardens. The water gardens when we went we’re drained down to mud for maintenance. They only told you this after you had paid to enter. The right thing to do would have been to close. So essentially there is nothing to do and you put in sweaty unwashed robes to do it. The only reason I’m not giving 1 star is because it’s only 35k to get in

We had the chance to visit Saraswati on Galungan Day and it was such an enjoyable visit. Really take your time and just soak in the beauty of this temple. From the gorgeous flowers along your walk in, to the intricate detail throughout the temple, it's a real testament to the skill and dedication of the Balinese people to their religion and culture.
Tip: Be mindful of the signage throughout the temple. This is an active temple, people still come to worship here, and there are signs alerting you of places you can't enter and things you should not take pictures of. There were a few tourists who ignored these signs while we were there and the locals had to intervene -- please don't be this person.

You must adorn traditional Balinese garb when you enter temple (furnished) with the 35.000 rupiah admission. Some construction going on currently, but still plenty of nice photo ops. Don’t miss if nearby.

I would like to know the best time to visit to try and see the lotus flowers. Is there any in August? And is it true they option the morning?

I am not sure for how long Lotus flowers are in season. But we were there at about 3pm and all of the flowers were open.

Hi, Is the Sarawsati and the Ubud palace in the same compound?
Can we walk through to the temple through ubud palace?
Written 6 June 2019
this is the only temple that has free entrance. someone outside of the gate trying to sell ticket, do not buy it. We almost made the mistake paying for the tickets.

Hello. I'm trying to get idea of if there is anything at back of temple to see or if the temple itself (which I assume is large building everyone photographs) is the main area to visit. Also, is the temple itself ever open to foreign visitors with proper dress? And does the performance in the evening go on in December and if so, is it likely to be impacted by rain?
Written 5 April 2019
Hi Roothy 123, I was there in December last year and the weather was perfect. It sometimes rain but usually at night. There's a lot of performances everywhere in and around Ubud, so you probably just need to see what's on at the time you're there.
I believe what you see from the Café Lotus, is the main part of the temple. It says somewhere you need a sarong etc to visit, but so far I haven't seen anyone wearing it to visit the ground. I also read there are guided tours, so maybe that could be an option for you. Some temples lend you sarongs during the visit. Don't know if Saraswati Temple does...
Written 14 April 2019
The temple itself is not big. But if you want to take pictures, especially at the weekends, you might need an hour to capture some interesting spot around. To enjoy the view of this temple, I highly recommend you to take a good spot seat in Lotus Restaurant, which on the same location with the temple.
Written 29 January 2019
Most probably yes. If they don't have the regular rituals, temple shall be opened at 8a.m
Written 29 January 2019
Hi, Janine. What would you like to know about this attraction? Do you get to keep the sarong or do you just use it? I'm going in August. Thank you, Janine
Written 1 April 2017
it seems you can't go inside the temple. but the outside view over the pond was splendid. and you don't need the sarong to go around outside.
Written 2 April 2017
This place is very convenient to access for any people. This is just beside the main road, your car can drop you on gate. No ticket needed to enter.
You have Lotus café and Starbucks on the Sawaswati Temple gate, so you can have a rest during your trip to Ubud.
