This small museum at the north end of Sanur Beach evokes a time of innocence and beauty before the introduction of relatively recent laws banning "immodest dress." Even more impressive than the paintings by the Belgian artist of the young Balinese dancer he married and her friends is the small mansion in which the art and artifacts are housed: a lovely example of Balinese architecture decorated with finely carved and gilded wooden shutters.

The sadly decayed but beautiful paintings from the 1930's of Belgian artist Le Mayeur are displayed in the traditional house he shared with his younger Balinese muse and devoted wife Ni Pollock, who lived here until1985.A reflection of meeting of cultures and that western media...More

Have read about this Museum so called in. The history of the place was interesting but I felt the place itself was a little run down. The gardens were well maintained.

Yes the paintings on grass woven canvas must have been beautiful. However, I haven't seen one of them. The smell of naphthalene (what is used in Europe agains moths) was purgent. I literally could not breath. Later found out they put this in all museums...More

This museum is one of the best examples of the Balinese architecture. It has wonderfully carved windows that tell the story of Ramayana. The interior of the museum has woven fibres, a naturalistic Balinese touch.

Better to see this interesting museum, before its very rich owner lets it completely rot. Good painting, spendid wood carved walls and nice garden

I had a good walk along the beach and visited the museum in the morning. The house and courtyard were well maintained. But the painting were not so well kept. It contain a lot of stories of the artist with his wife.

The artwork on display is lovely but it is a bit painful to see how damaged some of the artworks are by the harsh sunlight and humidity. An interesting place to visit but it would be even more impressive if the artwork had more of...More

... and having read a number of reviews about how poorly maintained the exhibit is, along with the fact that the 'works' are just prints, I opted for a cold beer instead.

at the north end of Sanur just past the Bali Beach Hotel it is a lovely walk as the avenue is wide and tree shaded or you can ride a bike - my husband usually hires one for the month so rides everywhere but I like to walk
