About
The Sanur Beach Promenade is lined with brightly painted outrigger boats along the water's edge, and good restaurants and cafes opposite. Treat yourself to a massage offered by one of the many masseuses with divans on the sand. If you're there in July, catch the Bali Kite Festival, a colorful international competition.

- Tracie PNorthern Territory, Australia14 contributionsSanur overviewSanur is quieter and more layer back which is what we wanted. The restaurants lining the beach provided lots of choices for meals and drinks and entertainment. A variety of shops also line the beach. We ate ate the Double 0 every night as the food was excellent as was the service. Staff were so friendly and the prices were very cheap compared to other places. We had tenderloin steak, chips and salad several times. At $9.50AU it was excellent value. I have been 6 times but never in October, it was really hot and humid, more so than other months and I wouldn’t do October again. Sanur has everything the busier places have but is more relaxed. I’ll definitely stay again but perhaps in May next time. Sanur beach is tidal so unless you get to the beach earlier in the day the beach is non existent in the afternoon but don’t let that deter you. Dinner on the beach with a cool breeze is wonderful. Also the sun sets on the other side of the island so beautiful sunrises but no sunsets.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 3 November 2023
- P JNorwich, United Kingdom149 contributionsNice and peaceful but....The area has a lovely promenade that stretches all the way along the beach front of Sanur, it is lined by beach bars and restaurants on one side and a sandy beach the other. The restaurants are ok but nothing special and the sea is very shallow and in places full of seaweed. Its nice for a chilled out couple of days but no longer and do make sure to book a place with a pool.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 November 2023
- Sam KPerth, Australia10 contributionsNice ViewA pleasant place to watch the sunrise. Parking is not a problem either. Made Weti is also available for breakfast, while Mak Beng is a good option for lunch. In addition, there is a bicycle rental service. The natural splendour of Sanur Beach can provide for a refreshingly unique and pleasurable experience while you're on vacation there.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 10 November 2023
- AZCasualTravelerMesa, Arizona2,438 contributionsExcellent Beach in BaliSanur Beach is an excellent area for swimming (during high tide hours only), walking along the 3+ mile long boardwalk that runs the entire length of Sanur Beach, or lounging under sun or tree shade. This Beach is protected from any high waves by a long reef that sits about 200 meters from the shoreline. Sanur Beach is a shallow beach with a maximum water depth of around 2 meters or less, and during the peak low-tide time periods there is little water in this beach area. However, during the high tide time periods, the Beach area is a great place. The boardwalk that runs along the entire length of Sanur Beach is very nice. This boardwalk was entirely refurbished/rebuilt just last year (2022) and is now an excellent walkway that is mostly covered by shade trees which is nice for people who are avoiding sunburns. Along the walkway, you get nice views of the beach areas, resort hotels, seaside restaurants and bars - much to see and do here. If you like to see nice sunrises, Sanur beach offers great scenic views of sunrises along the entire length of the beach. This is a photogenic beach for sunrises that is not to be missed. One block away from the beach, there is Jalan Danau Tamblingan Street, the main thoroughfare through Sanur, has many restaurants, bars, shops, money exchsnges, grocery stores, hotels and more. So there are many things to see and do here - well worth the visit.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 December 2023
- ZimminaroundtheworldOkinawa Prefecture, Japan1,973 contributionsNice Stroll Along the Paved Walking Path, A Lot Going OnI stayed in Sanur and walked the beach paths daily. I did not go in the water this time around but simply enjoyed my beach walks. It was nice seeing the resorts and restaurants lined up on the path and pretty beach views. This place was pretty crowded, so there were people everywhere, definitely not a secluded beach. For the most part, the beach was clean.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 January 2024
- RamboNWAlbertaSpruce Grove, Canada651 contributionsDecent beach best on north sideWe stayed a block off the beach at the Prime Plaza Hotel. Easy walk there, restaurants, shops etc along the way. Beach is busy area off this street and not as nice or kept up. Walking north to the right and along Sanur Beach gets to much better areas, nicer beach front, more sand and way more services. This beach area has adjacent markets, restaurants, shops, mini marts, everything you need. Easy to rent out lounge chairs, umbrellas, etc. , easy water access and not overly busy..Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 March 2024
- sydneysider48Sydney, Australia1,121 contributionsNice to walk along. The beach water appears clean and there were plenty of people swimming but we did not feel the need to do so as there was lots of seaweed and the water was very shallow. The sand on the beach could have been much cleaner - there was an unacceptable amount of plastic and other litter. That said, there is a lengthy and delightful walk along the beach, lined with cafes and restaurants, and we enjoyed sitting on sun lounges under a beach umbrella in the private area for our resort looking over the water to the reef and enjoying the sun and the sea breeze.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 July 2024
- Lesley MBrisbane Region, Australia182 contributionsOne of my favourite places in BaliI've been going to Bali since 2007 and Sanur is one of my favourite areas. A beautiful beach with white sand and no waves. Good for families. The newly renovated boardwalk makes it so much easier to walk along now. A great range of cafes and restaurants with lots of little stores to browse in. Sanur beach is always my first stop when I arrive in Bali.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 7 September 2024
- Trail407457976621 contributionMust be able to protect this beautiful beachSanur Beach is so beautiful But why are there no trash bins along Sanur beach. Signs for cyclists and pedestrians are minimal so it's hard to understand and see where the right path is. Especially after Icon Mall opened there is a lot of trash around the beach. So where is the revenue from parking money? facilities are very minimal. You must be able to protect this beautiful beach, don't just want to take advantage of it.Visited September 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 September 2024

Quiet peaceful part of Denpasar, less people, local feel, definitely no night clubbing, no beach babes and no surfers. Loved that! The beach is dotted with small eateries and very chill bars, so you will get your cold beer and meal. Sunset was amazing here too. And after the closing time, we ended up drinking with the staff of our bar. Fun :)

It is a beach with good and quality hotels. However, the beer is poorly maintained, I think the locals need some training on this issue. You can observe the tides very well. It has peaceful, quiet and enjoyable evenings. I recommend you to go there and drink Bintang beer and listen to live music performances.

All tours on and around Bali can be cheaply booked on the beach. We stayed in Segara Village and booked all our tours via Dayu Putri, she works in front of Segara Village opposite Tootsies. She arranges all tours to wherever you want to go for a really good price and everything included.
Our experience with Dayu was heartwarming and we will visit Bali as soon as possible again.

So relaxing to walk along the sea shore - there’s a footpath most of the way except where blocked off by hotels. Bars abound and it’s easy to get all sorts of food and drinks here. It’s hot in the middle of the day so I enjoy most in the evening. This is where the young and old can be seen sharing the same beaches and bars. Great beach.

Nice beach, lots of opportunities for food and service, observe your surroundings closely. Hmmm. Parts of the beach are more Indonesian, and some parts are more touristy. We enjoyed our visit and felt very safe as we walked, stopped, enjoyed a libation, and walked!

The sanur beach was very good the first week. The beds wasn't too expensive and it was room to lay straight on the sand if we wanted. A little bit trash here and there. The second week on the other hand was not as nice. The front sunbeds was reserved for guests of some hotels which were annoying since a lot of them stood empty. And it was so much trash coming in from the ocean that it was a little bit disgusting to bathe. The beach had little trashcans so if you wanted to do a good deed and pick up trash, it wasn't too easy to throw it away. But the first week we were there it was very nice.

Short ride from Seminyak.
Quiet and laid back, must say the beach is beautiful. A nice walking path along the beach for a good view, coupled with many cafes and shops selling souvenirs. Electric bicycles for rental too. Even a small conservation are for turtles - can swing by to have a look.
We went in Dec 2022, weather was hot and humid, even the breeze is hot.
Good to book a short stay, a night or two for a getaway from the usual busy Seminyak or Kuta.

I have never stayed in the Sanur area despite many visits to Bali. Engaged our friend from Denpasar to show us around. Early morning, the beach area still devoid of hawkers, the big clean being undertaken after the previous night's concert, there seemed to be more cafes, restaurants and shops open than in the Kuta area. Not overly impressed by the area. Stopped at Grand Lucky for a few purchases, enjoyed coffees and assorted delectable cakes and headed to Denpasar. Probably should have made a return visit in the afternoon to maybe get a different perspective of the area.

We recently visited Sanur Beach and I'm sorry to say that our experience was far from the idyllic beach we expected. The beach was littered with garbage throughout, which not only spoiled the scenery but also made swimming impossible. Despite long walks along the beach from one end to the other, the situation did not improve. This sight was disappointing, especially considering how much we were looking forward to relaxing days swimming. It seems that this place is in dire need of measures to clean up garbage and use environmental resources more sustainably. Until then, I cannot recommend a visit here.

Is there an entrace fee in Sanur Beach?

Hi we have booked flights to bali arrive 22nd Nov for 2 weeks first time to bali can anyone recommend a good hotel near the beach shops bars ect we are both 50 like days round the pool or beach nice walk on a night to restaurants we would like breakfast included also a nice pool thanks in advance

Hi, we love Sanur and also prefer the South End of the beach where there are lots of restaurants on the beach. Sanur is quiet and perfect for over 50's. I would love to recommend the Boutique Hotel we stayed in last October and are staying in again this May, but since we've booked, we discovered that there will soon be building works right next door. The Hotel are very good and have said if we are disturbed, they'll refund our money. So we just have to wait and see. We adore this place and really hope by May the noise may be finished. It's called Kejora Suites.
We also love Candidasa which is up the East Coast we will spend part time in Sanur and part in Candidasa (pronounced, Chandidasa). Have a look at Alam Candi Dive Resort. Small, quiet right on the water. Gorgeous. We've stayed there several times. But if you just want to chill out, then 2 weeks in beautiful Sanur would be great.
Enjoy, I'd love to hear where you stayed and how your holiday went.
Best Wishes

How long is the promenade/walk along the beach?
Written 7 October 2019
The promenade along Sanur is 5.38 kilometers long (approx 3.34 miles). I just measured it on google earth. I have ridden most of it on a bicycle. There are some places where you need to get off the bike to go through pedestrian gates, but it is ridable. Many people walk, stroll, and jog along here also, especially in the mornings. You can hire a bike for 50k IDR for an old clunker, or 100K IDR for a newer bike. Some hotels offer bikes for free. You may need to stop occasionally and walk the bike when there is any ceremony at a temple, wedding, procession, or cluster of people. I would not recommend riding the biclcle on the main road (it is very sketchy there indeed).

Absolutely there are
We go to Kayu Manis Restaurant on the walk way were you can sit for free provided you buy a drink or food
There are also the girls that do massages along beach walk that hire sun beds at reasonable price

Wondering what the beach is like in Sanur in July)August in terms of swimming. Is it polluted in the water at that time of year? I have visted twice before but at different times. Both occasions there was readily visible plastic pollution in the water and on the beach. I wonder if that's seasonal or all the year. I really liked Sanur village but want a swimming holiday in July.

Basically they did clean up many time (specially for plastic).
Last month I was there and was not bad. Hope you get a good view this time...

Hi - I am starting to worry that my plan to visit Sanur in July will be a wrong choice because I am seeing pictures of the beach being dirty and stories of many stray dogs - I am quite frightened of dogs.
So far we have only booked flights to Bali - Its our first time - where should we head for? We are two adults and a teenager
Written 7 April 2019
As I explained in my review, the garbage on the beach is a seasonal problem. As the dry season starts (about April usually) the winds shift from Westerly to South-Easterly. This brings nice cool breezes up from the Australian Fall and Winter and makes Sanur one of the best sites in the world for kite surfing. On the downside, as the winds shift, all the garbage that was floating around in the ocean to south of Bali gets washed up on Sanur beaches. The good news, it soon gets cleared as the 5* Hotels deploy teams of workers to clear it daily. As of now, and I walked all along Sanur beach yesterday, the garbage has gone and will not return until the start of the dry season in 2020.
Stray dogs are all over Bali and Sanur in general does not have a problem.
Sanur is a quiet, peaceful beach village. If you are looking for a peaceful holiday, it is ideal. There are plenty of restaurants and bars but not much "nightlife" as such. Your teenager will prefer Kuta, which is only 20 minutes away by (inexpensive) local Uber equivalents Grab or Go-Jek.

We are trying to decide between a private villa or going into a hotel. Does it feel safe to wander round Sanur in the evening.?
Written 1 April 2019
There are certain commenters here who seem interested only in promoting Nusa Dua and putting Sanur down at every opportunity. I built a home in Sanur 30 years ago and have lived full-time in Sanur for 20 years. Many of the problems being attributed to Sanur are, IMHO, entirely fictitious.
With regard to personal safety, we own some Villas in Sanur also and we have has groups of young ladies stay there and walk home to the Villas in the early hours with no problems. Bali in general is safe but, for a number of reasons, Sanur in particular is extremely safe. There is petty crime in Bali but it is mainly in the Kuta area, where purse snatchers and pickpockets are an intermittent problem.
Our own personal experience of living in Sanur for so long is that we have never once had a security problem of any description.
And Sanur is a part of the real Bali still with a strong local community and culture. It's LIVING Bali. The Nusa Dua complex of 5* hotels is nice in a way but it is entirely artificial and built for tourism. EVERYTHING there was built recently so nothing is original in its manicured perfection. Prices down there also are far higher than elsewhere on the island and IMHO there is a far better selection of reasonably-priced restaurants in Sanur.
Written 12 April 2019
When is generally high tide and low tide at Sanur beach? Is it in the morning or noon or evening when its generally high tide there?

We didn't worry about high or low tide we swam in both.
